I am fighting with myself on when I should move up limits I am on NL2 right now and looking to go to NL5, but when to do so is the big question.
I have played almost 20k hands using the BSS strategy with a win rate of 2.72BB/100 and I have played 8k hands using the MSS strategy with a win rate of 7.65BB/100 and overall my win rate is 4.17BB/100.
So obviously the MSS strategy is the one to use, my bankroll is $229+ which gives me almost 115 buy ins. I was thinking of playing 100k hands before moving up but I have worked out I am likely to have a bankroll by then of over $300 and 150 buy ins which seems too high to me.
Not sure what advice people are going to give me but I was thinking of playing on at NL2 until get to 30k hands in total then move up which is likely to be in around a weeks time.
I would base things on 100 buy ins or $200 and if I am losing move down at $180 or 90 buy ins until I get back above $200 and use this same basis for each level I go up to. So NL10 would be $400 and move down at $360.
One point in moving up I personally recommend is to not do it in one big move. E.g. let's say you play four tables of NL2 currently. You can change it to playing one NL5 and three NL2 first. There are several upsides in this imo:
- You will get feel of new limit
- Swings money wise and on your actual bankroll doesn't increase that much.
- If things start to work out you might be more willing to then move your play more into new limit.
So if you change all tables in one swoop and happen to run bad it can be mentally way tougher to handle.
Personally I am mixing between three limits on my cash game sessions. Depending what is available and table selection. It can be lot better to play really good lower limit table than mediocre/bad higher limit one.
In general I would advice to play with 100bb stack because usually rake cap is not easily reached on micro/small stake. Meaning with deeper stacks we get more often rake free portions of the pot in bigger pots. But yeah samples you have are small. If you feel unsure in deeper stack spots I would advice to post them and ask opinions.
BRM wise over 100 bin seems unnecessary and will slowdown progress to higher stake quite a bit. Rake being high on micro limits can be big issue with super safe BRM.
Thanks for your response Ghaleon. First of all I play only 1 table at a time I am not trying to earn a living from poker only recreational player here.
I am playing MSS strategy only so buy ins are 40BB.
Yeah but I think anyone can play at least two tables if we talk about normal ones at least. It's about making it more interesting as well. But of course it's each individual own decision.
I did try playing two tables with BSS but did not work I will try again using MSS as I am playing less hands, see how it goes.
