I just watched a video by bogdan where he uses a tool to simulate poker play over millions of hands. The value for the length and depth of the AVERAGE downswing was stunning.

There was also a value for the shortest downswing experienced by any of the players -- it was also far larger than I imagined.

Perhaps you don't even need to fix your game?

I have been playing on iPoker since June -- just micros -- and trying to play as TAG as I can. I'm down 8 BI, and it would be 15 except I've cashed well in a couple of freerolls.

I recently had a look at my database, and found that over 10K hands only:
Set over Set: lost 3x won once
Cracked AAs: Lost 4x won twice
That is 4 BI right there net.

If you think you need to work on your game, take part in the coachings, post hands, ask questions, study articles.

If you think you need to work on your mindset, there is stuff for that too.

You can do it! All you need is a little motivation! Start by watching videos on Youtube, and learn how pros play hands in different situations. You don't suck, but if you make yourself feel you do, then you'll be a losing player. Also, go to your local casino and play there. I'm running very bad online lately, but at the casino it's filled with donkeys who are just there for fun and only have little knowledge of the game.

You should read articles on Pokerstrategy on how to improve your game. Out of 10 live tournaments I play, I can usually take down 4-5. I gained all the knowledge from watching videos on Youtube.

I think I'm just down in the dumps really! I do have poker mindset which ive read a few times and go over particular chapters every so often. I think I've lost a bit of focus, maybe some time away would be good and not think about the game.

I dunno, I'm just waffling here, I'll see how i feel in the morning. Watch some motivaional vids and crack on!

My 1bb for NL2 : Don't read articles,understand them.The articles here have in them the governing concepts of NLHE.You have to understand how they work and then PLAY. experience = knowledge

Deposit 300$ and play NL10.There's not much difference between the levels and rec players are going to be rec players regardless of limit.Regulars are tough?Please...

I can beat NL2 and NL5, even NL10, just lately been struggling! need to refocus and regain composure!

I do understand the articles, the concepts there are posing, application is my struggle.

I need help on putting people on ranges etc.

Just need to start working harder i think

confidence is everything..
i play sh cash and started wid micros...had reachd nl30 and was taking shots at 50 as well...then it all went south...and at one point i was back to nl 2 and nl5..which sucked..and i thought i can never win and poker aint for me and all.
but stopped for a week or so..gathered my thoughts set my goals...and just ijnected some confidence in myself..

and slowly but surely i am back to my nl 30 and 50....

Putting people on hand ranges at micros is pretty difficult since these people can play any two. I think it would be way easier concentrating on playing ABC poker and not worry so much what others have.

I couldn't disagree more.Very few play as uncoordinated as you say.If you break it down to combo counting,just add 2-6-12-18 air combos,depending on how crazy you believe him to be.

Play ABC and lose up to 5bb/100 from your winrate at the micros.You will have 1-2bb/100 at NL 10,move up,and that shit just won't cut it anymore. Guess what that 1bb per 100 at NL10 looks like at NL25,NL50...

If you beat it for more with ABC,then congratz on game-selecting.

Meh, I play more FL these days, so I could be way off.

Certainly people have tendencies - some play suited cards more often, some connected cards, some just splash around with any broadway. However for most of them the range is still wide and thinking too much about their hands will not necessarily lead to better decisions. Reads certainly help, but with so many new players every day, these have their limitations too.

If you're reading the articles and thinking you understand them, but not having much joy implementing them, you could possibly benefit from Leakbuster (HEM add-on).

It can analyse your play for you, tell you where your stats look a bit suspect, and what you need to work on. As well as including videos of how to work on it.

If you have some spare cash, it's worth it. It also helps you to work on your game leak by leak, and avoid overcompensating

Excellent advice. If your struggling try posting hands in hand evaluation. Or even commenting and having go at evaluating other player's hands. There are plenty of good videos here too..

When I'm struggling I find the best thing is to go back to basics. A lot of the time when I'm 'running bad' is usually when I end up spewing and playing in dominated spots so one thing that helps me for example is I have a 'base range' saved on equilab that plays out like 20/16/5 and when I'm struggling/running bad I'll revert to that and it helps me avoid marginal spots post flop and regain my composure. (I play about 27/22/10 normally btw)

Perhaps it might be worth dropping down a limit to regain some confidence?

And as I'm a firm believer in 'preflop compounds postflop'. I think there is an excellent video series that might help:

Holmeboy - thanks for your words. I havnt posted many hands recently, or commented on them! I used to do it a lot, about a year or so ago but fell out of the habit of doing it! Think im playing more than studying at the min so I'll have to make it more 50/50 or so

And yeah, a base range sounds like a good idea i'll try that out too!
