Full Tilt Poker, $0.50/$1 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players

Hero (BTN): $102.50
SB: $80.60
BB: $200
UTG: $178.85
MP: $111.95
CO: $101.50

Pre-Flop: A♠ K♣ dealt to Hero (BTN)
2 folds, CO raises to $3.50, Hero raises to $12, 2 folds, CO calls $8.50

Flop: ($25.50) 7♥ 3♠ 9♠ (2 Players)
CO checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($25.50) 5♣ (2 Players)
CO bets $16, Hero folds

CO: 23/16/4 in 78 hands
I´ve 3-bet CO couple of times, since he was stealing my blinds 40% of the time. This time I actually have a hand, but he doesn´t know that:)
So I may expect a lot c/r on that board with TT, JJ, maybe some suited connectors, flushdraws and I´m not comfortable shoving^^
(thinking on 3th or 4th level )
So to avoid c/r then I decided to take free card and fold to his turn bet.
He may try to get free showdown with A high, but he might probably bluff with some weaker hands, but don´t think that I´m ahead he enough to make turn bet +ev.
Would you always contibet against lag for example on that board?

c-bet flop, it's not hard to give up A high to a check/raise... you're basically giving him the pot here. As played, you could raise the turn imo, but others might disagree with that ^^

the guy is 23/16 so he's a standard tag and you can easily rep an overpair here and fold to a raise. I always cbet in 3bet pots when I am in position. You need to defend your 3bets or people are gonna exploit you.

as played I thnik it is an easy fold, shoving the turn is way way too spewy imo, you just don't rep anything but 99, as you wouldn't check behind an overpair on that flop imo, given that he could have called you light

actually i am told that at higher limits if you always defend your 3bets, people will exploit this. they will call lighter OOP, and play check/raise with any decent hit hence leaving both of you left with so little that position no longer matters... cliffnotes: EXPENSIVE for hero.

#2

basically in 3bet pots, i'm checking back some horrible flops that hit my opponent hard (2 x A/K/Q + x) and miss me entirely.

but i'm always cbetting this.

I don't think there are many flush draws in his range. Tag likely wouldn't call a 3bet oop with sc and two possible overcards AK, AQ (21 combos) don't have suited spade combinations. Other part of his range are medium pairs like 88-JJ (21 combos)
So since his range doesn't have suited overcards, he won't be semi-bluffing with those. very unlikely, at least
He would likely c/r sets (drawy board) and just call overpairs.
Given the above range cbet is definitely profitable

I like your sense of logic

however I guess the thing is the more you move up the more you need to think ahead of your opponent which becomes harder and harder since he is also always wanting to think ahead of you. So it becomes kind of a guessing game, and calling light then check raising the turn is going to be an expensive move, if you do it too often, it seems way more exploitable than just a cbet.

I would make a conti and if he adjusts i change. But most people "are" weak in 3 bet pots.

nope, i mean calling light preflop, and check/raising the flop.

this is a lot more significant, because they get 3 "freecards" so to speak, rather than 1.
