When you hit top pair on the flop and don't have the initiative you will most likely lose a lot of money when you float. Especially if villain is barreling all streets you are behind the vast majority of times.

To sum up your play I have seen in couple of hands you posted here, I am pretty sure that you lose value in some hands where you shouldn't and giving too much away instead of giving up and move on.

POSITION + INITIATIVE + SKILL = $$$

Hi Richard, thank you for visiting my blog, and analyzing my play in general, it is very helpful for me.
It is still hard for me to read opponents from HUD except VPiP and PFR, so unless they have Vpip over 30, I am scared of them, and usually call to often instead of folding or raising. I have narrowed my range on early and middle positions, hopefully it will result in saving money oop with marginal hands...
On the hand with set of 8s I wanted to keep BB in the hand, is that a bad move? He is an aggro fish, so I thought I could get some of his $$$...

Thanks again, and please keep following and advising :f_biggrin:

The thing about keeping somebody in by just calling, you give them a chance to improve to a better hand. The best play is it get it in while you are ahead. And you be more scared from players with stats like 9/7 not 30/20. You should always aim to have an initiative when you hold marginal hands if you really want to take the pot down without showdown. You really want to see a showdown when you hold a monster not otherwise. If he is aggro fish in that example you should definitely raise and try to get it in until the river.

7th update

So not much of a poker weekend for me... played a couple of sessions on Friday, one doom and one rehab...Saturday and Sunday spent on a lot of interesting non-poker stuff...

So couple of hands from Friday:

Stupid things always keep repeating...I mark c/f automatically for this hand, but he limps, so I can see the flop, and when I saw two pair had to play the hand....

I think this is finally a good play from my side...His 4bet is a clear QQ+ IMO, on flop he can have an overpair, and will probably try to get it all in, my thoughts were to fold everything else besides J on the flop, but there he was:

do you have any particular reason for playing NL10 at FTP, with 6.7pct rake at NL10?

Yes, I am clearing FDB, + I am gold status on edge, so it compensates in RB for the high rake, if that was your question.

As I am rushing trough Rush Week time for some non poker as well, since I missed it on my last update.

I don't have to remind you guys, but lets just say if you're No1, then you're No1

Basketball squad keeping it cool in domestic league, but failing to win in EuroCup twice in a row, but against top quality teams... Take a look at this amazing 3 pointer @ the buzzer...

I will just mention that handball squad completely lost their mojo, and embarrassed themselves on World Champ, and my favorite football club is going trough a very rough time, hope things go much better in the future...

Work and life related, while continuing Insanity fitness program, and rehearsing almost every day, I even managed to play a good game of footsal with my friends. I am preparing for a surprising tour (all of us found about it on Saturday) to Ecuador, one week festival in the city of Ambato, with a chance to visit Bogota , Columbia on our way back. So that means no grinding for about half of February, but i doubt I'll miss poker during the tour...

Now I have to rush to my rush week project, because I don't have too much time to grind with all other non poker stuff on my mind...

An adequate sign off...

8th update

So as I am rushing towards the end of Rush week, I will do my usual midweek recap (I like to do it Friday morning, since that's the time when I receive my Edge reward, so my BR always looks healthier).

I only managed to play a couple of regular NL10 sessions due to Rush, but I did ok on both...

Couple of hands where I made a mistake, I was really working on improving my 3bets, but on these two hands I just played badly...

I would scare him off with a 3bet before flop, or at least represent a stronger Q or an OP on the flop...

Here, a stronger 3bet, and a better read on his cards on the flop and turn... My bad play...

Graph of regular NL10:

For rush week I tried to play NL5, realized once again that players are too tight IMO, but managed to lose 5BI while relearning that...

Then jumped to NL10, and took back my 5 NL5 BI, and switched to FR NL5 & NL10 for the rest of rush week, more fish, less stress...

Pocket AA just don't seem to work on rush....

I am looking forward to Monday, finishing RW, and making a review of my first month as a blogger here on PS forum... :f_biggrin:

And after that going on a deserved break...

Hi Milan, in the first hand I don't like the turn 3bet. You are turning a hand with showdown value into a bluff. What stronger hands you want to the villain to fold and which are the weaker hands you want to get value from. By 3betting here you are representing very narrow range. Just call the turn and eventually small bet on the river (if you think he will 3 barrel hand like 99 or AK) I think would be better.

In the second hand I would prefer to just call from the BB. If you prefer 3betting make it a little bit bigger, something like 1.00.

Hand 1: Preflop and flop fine. Turn just call. river fold to such sizing.

Hand 2: Preflop call. Flop raise. Standard cooler, I would go broke my self there.

Hand AA #1: I don't see why you go broke on such board, hits pretty well villains 3bet call range in this spot. 99 to JJ. Definitely would fold to the re-raise on the flop.

9th update

So one month has passed since I started my blog, and it's time to do a little recap...

The main reason for starting a blog was to learn more about a proper way of playing poker, and not just call/raise/fold play! With HM2 I was able to see many of my mistakes, but I needed someone to point out where exactly am I doing wrong, and how to prevent those mistakes...

The biggest improvement is that I stopped shoving on turn and river with marginal, and already lost hands, and started thinking more about position play... Lately added my ranges, and started putting my opponents on specific ranges...

VERY IMPORTANT, in 99% of hands where I get cooled off on river with one out of two outers, I DON"T TILT!!! I just analyze the hand, and see I played it correctly, and the rest is just bad variance... That is a major improvement, since I used to tilt very hard in those situations, and lose couple of stacks due to that tilt...

So time for some graphs and stats...

NL10 graph since I started the blog

Graph of the first month in total

And the graph for last week's Rush Week

So to sum it up....

I'm still losing money on NL10, but not that much, and due to 55% RB from Full Tilt this month is in green $$$!

BR: 345$
NL10 stats: 19.5/14.5 -4.32bb/100 over 13.619 hands
Rush stats: 11/8.5 -3.5bb/100 over 13.600 hands

Still expecting 50$ bonus from rush week, so when I return from tour, I will have a healthy 400$ BR, and hopefully start crushing NL10 for real...

So don't expect any updates for the next two weeks, and when I come back, fresh and poker hungry, there will be some heavy grinding... :f_cool:

Thank you all guys once again for following and analyzing my play, and helping me to improve, it means a lot to me... :f_biggrin:

Man really, looking at your graphs it seems that you are not ready for NL10 yet, you should probably move down a limit. It will prevent you losing so much money in the long run. I know that rakeback keeps you breakeven, but it is not how it should be in poker.

Or you could hire a coach that would lead in the right path. That's what I did, I hired [edited by gadget51], who is an excellent coach and definitely worth the money. I think for NL10 coaching his rate is still $40. I'm not sure. Just visit his site - [edited by gadget51] .

And good luck. :]

Hi Rihard4a,

As much as your advice and helpfulness is always very much appreciated, I have edited your post, since I don't think we allow external links to those who may be competitors.

I trust you understand my reasoning.

Thank you,

Mal.

I am back....

trip to Ecuador was amazing, will write about it in the non poker section....

As for poker, after having enough time to analyze my game, and my options, I decided to drop down to NL5 SH, and stop looking at FDB and RB, and just try to improve my game and have a winning week, month, year (Who knows??? _cool: )!
However my relax and mixing time will be Rush NL5, NL10 FR with a stop loss @ 1BI, just to keep things interesting and have more fun playing poker...

BR stands @ healthy 400$+, so I'm on good BRM @ the moment

Also I am still undecided if I should take 100$ and transfer them to a tracked account, so I can get access to more articles, videos, coaching, and strategy in general or maybe that should be my first new goal:

[ ] reach 500$, then withdraw 100$ and deposit them on a tracked platform
[ ] reach gold status in next (whatever it would be) month on PS

GL to me & to U all

10th update

So I am adapting to NL5, I feel very comfortable on the tables, but I still need to build up database so it will be easier to read opponents. Besides that I really enjoy NL10 rush FR, compared to SH it has lots of fish, but only in peak hours, otherwise its too slow.

Off poker

As mentioned, I was away on a tour in Ecuador, and had great fun, it was also hard, since the city of Ambato, where we were, is on a high altitude (2.600m) so its hard to walk, and even harder to dance.
It was a carnival week, and the whole city lives for it, the streets were crowded with local people, all smiling and eager to see their guests for this year.

You can see the atmosphere from this link:

My friends and I performed Russian dances.... You can see us around 22minute....

Sadly I missed the first trophy of my team while I was there, basketball team won the national cup by beating city rivals in the final match...

But this weekend I was here to see another win against same rivals but this time in a league match....

Dunking NBA style... _cool:

11th update

Not much poker going on lately....To much stuff to do off poker....

My surprising upswing forced me to throw away 40$ on a NL10 shot in around 500 hands!
When will I learn?????

So nice way to start off a month, and even with today's session @ NL5 I am back where I was before my tour :f_cry: ...
Since I dropped to NL5 my FDB clearing rate is a misery, I haven't been able to clear one 20$ chunk for weeks.....
Enough whining, time for some hands and graphs:
