1.Yesterday I experienced a funny thing. Pretty soon into the session I had some tilt build-up because I received some beats/coolers. I did the breathing and injecting logic and managed ok. When I stopped the session though, I was saying to myself "o well another bad day" and I thought I lost a couple of buy-ins. However when I looked at the results I was pleasantly surprised to see I was up 6 buy-ins. So I think that there was still accumulated emotion/tilt from the horrible day before in my system. Interesting experience.2.So I'm still influenced by my short/medium-term results. I should focus even more on the process of preparation-playing quality-evaluation/cooldown.
To let go of short-term results I can check my long-term results. This always helps to see things in perspective and convince my mind that in poker only the long-term results count.3.I am beginning to experience that the mindfulness exercises bring a whole new dimension to the game and life. This sounds maybe new-age/hippy and before I was a little skeptic too, but now I belief it is a key part in gaining control over emotions and in optimizing performance.
4.I become more aware of what happens in my mind and body. It is now like I am acquiring a higher level of thinking. I am still in the learning process of this skill and sometimes it is easier then others, but I'm very happy I started this! And I see it is possible after becoming aware of what is going on, that I have some control over it like I do when experiencing tilt. Also here a lot of practice is required, but I can clearly see this is the right approach.
1/2. Try playing a game called "Spotting good variance". Have a note book next to you or mark every hand in HM2 where you ran good. And i mean everything, set-ups, getting saved by a flush card river when you have set and he has straight, and good card to barrel etc. If you put all your focus on that you will be looking for positive things in the session instead of the negative. Does it change variance. No. But you will be more positive and leveled when the bad variance comes because it will feel more fair. But you have to actively do it.
3.Believe me that you would have to say some really out there things if you want to be too hippie new age for me to raise an eyebrow lol ♦
4.Put effort into finding your A-Game in every session. The two correlate and finding one helps with the other. Have a pre-session routine that is systematically putting you in A-Game territory..
Keep up the good work! Nice to hear you are seeing such progress.
Cheers!
