Hello people,

So, had an exciting weekend now. Plenty of nice people and some planning for next University year. I'm going to be one of the guys who is going to lead new students to University and that's quite exciting, too. Had only small session of poker on Sunday, though I still might play later a bit more. Games were quite easy, got close to $100 and my own play was standard. I've noticed that playing on normal tables is (still) the best way for me to succeed. On zoom I can, in the long-run, be a winning player. With 4-8bb/100, perhaps. But on regular tables I do have plenty of edge versus others. Always. I exploit fish, I exploit regs, I usually play hard against them and try to be as nasty little .. Angel as possible. And it seems to work. Last 3 sessions I've played on regular tables, mixing NL25/NL16/NL50. Depends on amount of fish, usually I play on NL25 but I get some NL16 if not enough fish available. BB/100 seems to be rather high, ofc I've had good run, but taking maximun out of anyone has been one of my best sides.

In the future I might play both zoom and regular tables, but I need more BR for zoom. It is a lot more swingy as one usually needs to beat regs more than the fish. So in a way playing regulars is more +EV. I also got a new cell phone this weekend and it supports PokerStars mobile app, so it might increase my playing a bit. Dunno

Anyway, some hands, too:

1. This hand was against some nutheadcrazymonkeyvillain. Stats were like 61/28, had been donking a lot and so. Usually opened 2 or 3x. Now, first 4x open (and it was SNAP!), and I had a good QQ/KK/AA buster. Flat pre-flop and flop was easy game... _cool:

I might play even some poker today, if I have time. We will see..

Wrapping up the month..

I was a bit disappointed with my volume, but also with my results. Month was actually quite close to BE. However, in the beginning of the month I made big adventures on PLO and spewwed $300!!! That was huge amount, but somehow I managed to get my month on ++ on NLHE games, which must be the main goal for me as a player. Couldn't hold my goals for this summer, but no can do. Next month I'm aiming to use Stars deposit bonus and try to grind it off to make some real $$$, but more about it will be posted to some project diaries...

So swingy. IT seems like sometimes I played when I wasn't 100 % in to the game. Especially my red-line shows it on some spot when it starts to fall a bit. I'm having some serious trouble with starting sessions, too - I might get down 2-3 bin in like 10 minutes and then grind it back all the way to ++ day. Which can't be 2 good. I should try to find something to make my session starts be as solid as the endings.

Then some hands from today:

1. Villain is some random fishy looking guy. When such a passive guy raises flop it smells a lot like set to me. Or FD. Now when I hit on turn I decide to donk as they often love to cback sets and raise flushes, sometimes call with slowplayed overpair or random 2p. River was easy jam, and his hand was a bit surprise for me

2. This hand was versus a weak player. Way too high WTSD and very exploitable post-flop. Had bet-size leaks for sure. Now I decided to flat as he is very likely to overplay any hand he haz...

Interesting mourning, again.

I played very well but despite that I was already down 3bi in the beginning of my session. I ran terribly and got coolers and bad run. Managed to get back up, but ran total of 2bin under EV. Standard, but no can do

Here is a good example of applying pressure to villains AND about having aggressive pre- and post-flop images..

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

BTN: $30.63 (122.5 bb)
SB: $28.83 (115.3 bb)
BB: $27.21 (108.8 bb)
UTG: $32.96 (131.8 bb)

Hero (CO): $25 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with K K

Flop: ($3.85) 2 7 9 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $2.25, UTG raises to $4.50, Hero calls $2.25

Turn: ($12.85) J (2 players)
UTG bets $10.25, Hero raises to $18.75 and is all-in, UTG calls $8.50

River: ($50.35) 8 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results:

Spoiler

$50.35 pot ($2 rake)
Final Board: 2 7 9 J 8
UTG showed Q A and lost (-$25 net)
Hero showed K K and won $48.35 ($23.35 net)

My thoughts about this hand - mostly on villain's side:

Spoiler

Okay, my 3-bet - it was a bit smaller to induce this guy. I've been 3-betting bigger lately as he was folding too much against 3-bets. It seems like he decided to play back and flat with AQo. However, he made a mistake here. Pre-flop CO versus UTG 3-bet ranges are basically far more tighter than they are from BU vs CO or BU vs MP for instance. When he calls my 3-bet he will see many flops oop and hit only 1/3 times. Most of the time he misses.

That's why one should just 4-bet pre-flop with AQo. When he calls and hits Ace on flop - he can't be 2 sure whether he is ahead or not. When he hits Q, its' not too sure he has the best hand. And when he hits it's not guaranteed Hero gives him any action anymore. By calling he gets himself into a very marginal situation where he has to overplay his hand some of the time. This guy was exploitable, however, as he had raised cbets far too often and he represents way too small amount of combos on flop.

To the post-flop part... On flop when he rai... he pots it he tells inconsistent story - what hand minraises flop and bets pot on J turn? AJ is some part of his call 3-bet range most likely, but not that wide. When he pots turn he sets up stacks quite bad for river - if hero calls he must jam any river with very low fold equity. If he wants to bluff here he should:

a) Have value-raise range on flop, too and
b) set stack-sizes so that it's harder to call on river.

Min-raise flop pot turn would work on single-raised pot with fishy or solid image way better than here. Now he played really poorly. Obviously he can't bet/fold turn though hero is never bluffing as he could still have A and Q alive and T gives str8.

Everything started from poor pre-flop play - this is just a great indicator about how one's smallish pre-flop mistake can cost him his whole stack. That's why we apply aggression to weaker players and see them making horrible bluffs with too narrow range and calling with too dominated range all the way to the end.

This time it's due to my newfound sickness. Just an aggro flu, no worries But it doesn't allow me to think clear or play clear, so no can do..

Hello,

Sad news everyone. The Finnish Community will be taken down now. I won't do any moderator duty there after it of course. It's sad also because now I lose my job as a translator. Bad day, indeed, time to take some beer to cheer me up.

Anyways, luckily I still have this blog here and perhaps I'll get a bit more active and attend to hand analysis conversations a bit more from now on. I might also make some updates about my own game and stuff.

Dat is true boys, taking back the English community and turning it into Finnish one is a great plan..

I think my blog activity will be low this month. I'm taking that November challenge and I see no point in updating thoughts and hands in 2 places. So this blog will be full of nothing or empty words this month
