Outspan's quest for diamond

Another week has passed, and finally this month I will get the gold status because I've cleared out the time for poker. I'm playing 2 tables of Zoom nl10, a semi-lag style inspired by Pleno (I follow as many of his coachings as possible) and I find this style to be very profitable, even though I don't have a huge sample.

The next step now is to really increase volume considerably. I will aim for a minimum of 750 strategy points this month and go from there, as I keep posting hands and following coachings.

some thoughts i have had on playing against unknown perceived regs:
- opening 100% buttons is profitable
- on a more controversial matter... opening 100% sb (???!) feel like people don't defend enough against that either.
- 3betting light vs utg with Axs? i feel like i get enough folds, but people open so tight in general that i am afraid to do it more often.

No matter. Things are going well for me and my bankroll is now building up steadily. I'm playing 2 tables of nl10 Zoom and really enjoying it so far. This week I've been playing 26/23 overall and I've been working on finding more spots to 3bet, but I only brought it up to 7.2. I feel like in most cases I still don't have enough stats on villains to know when a marginal 3bet is the best move.

Today I have also taken a 1BI shot at NL25 and won 2 stacks (I kept sitting out when I reached 30eur to prevent too much variance).

a) I agree that opening a lot of BU is profitable, especially vs regs that fold too much and/or don't 3bet enough, and sometimes even vs unknown. Most of the time, even if you don't win preflop with your 45o, you'll be playing in position, with initiative and a skill advantage vs the average opponent.

b) If you open to 3bb from sb, then you can open 100% if BB folds at least:

EV > 0 <=>
Pfold*bbToWin - (1-Pfold)*bbToInvest > 0 <=>
Pfold*1.5 - (1-Pfold)*2.5 > 0 <=>
Pfold*1.5 - 2.5 + Pfold*2.5 > 0 <=>
Pfold*4 > 2.5 <=>
Pfold > 0.625

And there isn't a lot of people who fold less than 62.5% from BB vs SB steal, so I agree that it's profitable, except against the really big calling stations. And this is assuming that regs don't adapt. That's a whole other issue.

c) It really depends on villain's stats, I wouldn't do it to anyone but if fold to 3bet and fold to cbet are high I'll consider it. However they'll tend to fold a lot less from UTG even if they have f3b 75.

I haven't been able to play much poker lately, both because of HM2 problems and because I'm moving to a new apartment and things are hectic here. I will resume updating this blog again once I'm able to put in some reasonable volumes of hands.

I haven't updated this blog in a long time, and that was because I allowed myself to get distracted by a million other things.

However three days ago, as I was reading Napoleon Hill's "Think and grow rich," things really changed for me. Something really hit me - I had read that book before, but I understood it only mentally. Now I understand it emotionally, and I am ready to do whatever it takes to succeed.

I have decided that I will actually go ahead and reach my original goal of achieving a diamond status by the end of the year. It will be a tough challenge playing NL10, but I know that I will get there.

I have also recently joined a project on the Italian PS forum, "Italian Microstakes Heroes," which is a fun competition that encourages grinding and awards private coachings, leak finders and status upgrades to the winners. The competition is a combination of hands played, hands posted to be analyzed, and four theoretical quizzes over the course of a month.

I won't get my diamond status just by winning the competition; I'll get the 7500 Strategy points on my own.
