The 60 seats refers to the American Senate. If either Party gets a majority in the Senate of 60 or more, they can pass a motion or proposal with the option to limit the time the other senators have on the mic, thus eliminating the chance for them to commit a hold-up strategy known as filibustering (talking on and on about non-sensical stuff, in order to delay the vote, a political tactic used in many countries)
Acquiring the sole right to filibuster would effectively eliminate opposition as it's the last straw to cling to for a minority faction in a two-party system to oppose laws unilaterally approved by the majority.

I hate discussing politics, because I'm NOT that into it. (I have become more into it after this election, but still.)

I am happy Obama won. So are most people I know, and I don't care if you say "that we don't get it". The world has seen two terms of Bush. That is the biggest reason alot of non-us people 'voted' for Obama. Another reason would be the fact that they do not share some of the views with the republicans.

Also Mccain was to old, and we would probably see President Palin within the term and THAT would be horrible.
