Freelancing computer programming, prob C# dev since I got into it at the end of high school or working at Continental Automotive in Timisoara. I know, very specific but my idea was to either be self-employed or work a big company. The idea to build my own thing came along with poker.

Have you stopped the coaching then? By the way, do you know any coaches at PS who take a percentage of winnings, rather than an hourly rate/lump sum? My roll's ok, but there's no wad's of cash lying around my room unfortunately

I stopped coaching, yes. I don't know of any coach to specific that he takes percentages of winnings. When asked about a coach for NL50 or so and below I generally recommend a former student of mine who is now a coach in the Portuguese community, double2.

Even if he doesn't take winnings sharing deal, he should probably still be on your coach shortlist.

Since Pleno1 also recently mentioned that poker players are lazy, you might be interested in this post about the 'taking breaks' mindset :)

You may have 1% of my winnings.
Please send me a cheque for $0.03 to cover March.

"Taking a break" does not mean doing nothing.

When I am working on a problem, I HATE interruptions of any kind. I tend to "bulldog" it until the problem is solved. This can be a problem, since often there are things -- meetings, appointments, summons from the boss -- that MUST be done. When returning to the original task, it often takes longer to get the brain back into the problem that was spent on the break.

Even so, it is important to rise, stretch and change focus approximately twice an hour (or at least I think so ) If you ( or rather I ) don't do that, then I get stiff muscles, headaches etc.

I think the whole issue is really one of time management.
We all have the same amount of it.

Make it count.

Peace,
--VS

If the interruption is pre-scheduled, then it's all about time management. Summons from the boss seem a bit bad if it happens often for topics that don't actually require immediate attention. I know stuff like that is what people hate the most. We generally just send a Skype message and get an answer when it's not really an interruption, even if we are in the same room.

I don't need to stand once an hour to move, I just stretch while sitting when I feel like it and stand up from my desk for other activities once every few hours anyway.

I often find that the solution to a hard problem pops into my head once I rest my little brain for a while and stop thinking about it. Never underestimate the power of tea and biscuits young Manu.

Wise JB, you misunderstood. The solution pops into your head because it's what your brain is programmed to do while performing other activities, such as eating.

I found solutions while reading things unrelated, eating, even when trying to go to sleep.

I bet you disagree with your students' habits of breaks.
