Use your tight image to your advantage and steal blinds. With a very tight image you can be pretty sure they are reraising you with the goods and can easily fold your AJ, KQ, etc...

I don't think you were card dead, just too tight for the later stages of the tourney. You goto loosen up more the higher the blinds get.

Well, when I say card dead I mean card dead. Not AK, KQ once, and the only pocket pair was the JJ early on. Or do you suggest then that you should try to bluff into a multi-way pot of very aggressive players and with Q-2 or J-4? I think that is a recipe for disaster.

The other thing, all tourneys at these casinos have re-buys. I actually hate these, as people play them like crazy (reminds me of online freerolls). I try to stay out of trouble until the re-buy period is over. For example, I got a nice hand, Jd-10d in late position in an un-raised pot. I had the correct image to try to steal that pot, but it was the last hand for re-buys (they call it the all-in hand). I look at the people still to act and two of them had less than 15BB, including the BB. I had 6,600 and the blinds at 75/150. I may be wrong, but I thought it wasn't worth it to risk a third of my stack in that particular hand that had no folding equity. I knew people would gear down after there was no chance for re-buying.

After that hand I only got unsuited face-rags and the dreadful AQ's and AJ that brought me down.

you need to try and use your image as your weapon (as said before)

I feel your pain since i have been in your position. I have played few tourneys live and structure was really sick...so i had to be agressive even early in the tournament. So the first coupled of times i played as same as online...but it didn't bring me any benefit since players were very weak and loose and structure was like turbo tourney...since i was shortstacked and card dead i had to push with marginal hands with almost no fold equity since opponents would have called lightely.
It was the last time when i played more loose agressive and more observant which gave me some success. I was stealing with A4s, punished the limpers and called shortstack's pushes more often. Every time when i was all in with someone i was the huge favorite but we end up in chop(AKvsAQ;ATvsJT). Even though i was card dead again i managed to make the final table but infortunately finished just before the money.
Anyway my advise is to try to pick up tells since it will bring u the edge u need.

poker is not about what cards you got but also what cards they think you got , play position & play it very aggessive & use a tight table image so they think you got a big hand

download PokerStove and look at hand ranges & what hands play well & personaly tend to play loose early in MTT to build up stack knowing at some stage of a MTT everyone will be card dead for a bit & helps to get through those stages

when you get chips you have to use them, your tight image and your big stack is your biggest weapon, you have to be making moves on the loose aggressive players, the last thing they want is to see you re-raising them, if they attack your blind late in the tourney call and check raise on the flop its better to go out fighting than getting blinded away, pick your moments and attack attack attack!

Other players often see chip leaders as chip banks, they don't fear them as they reckon they'll call with any 2 cards. That's what was happening to you I bet, especially in a rebuy where players with more money than skill can stack up eventually by being aggressive as they have no fear of losing chips early on.

Play tight to a point, then raise big to steal when in good position, so long as you don't do it too often they'll put you on big hands the few times you do. Patience is hard to come by in poker, but it usually pays off. Let the donkeys cancel one another out ♦

making moves on the loose agresive? isn't it easier to make moves against tags that know folding is an option?

imo , being card dead will happen, hopefully you get alive to the steal / resteal stage and be able to not get caught. or to suckout ♦
