Hi,

I recently decided to start playing double or nothings to help learn ICM and after initially just breaking even I then went on a winning run that took me from about £50-250, but now I just seem to be hanging around the same amount and just breaking even.
Is it possible to make any money at DoN? I find that I regularly make totally correct decisions according to SnG wiz but get called by a loose player, they win and thats me gone!! Very frustrating

Am I better of just using it to hone my ICM skills then go back to normal SnGs?

Thanks

Its basicly all about sample size ;) how many SNGs have u played?

Havent played DoNs in years, but i guess theres still money to be made - But theres variance in this format aswell.

No1 can tell u if u should stick to DoNs or not - it all comes down to skillset and mindset. My advice would to play whatever u find funny ;)

I'm a DON specialist and I have to say it is very possible to make money from DONs. Plenty of fish, regs are terrible.

Keep practicing ICM and watch pokerstrategy videos, read articles and posting in the hand evaluation. Hand evaluation is a very useful tool, it could be helpful in achieving +ROI success. Look for other peoples posts(in DON format), and post your own!

Sample size is of course incredibly important. I used to grind DON SNGs all day everyday. I wasn't turning a positive ROI at the time and still made money through rakeback.

Focus on increasing the number of tables you are playing, focus on your decision making, especially on the bubble, and you can absolutely make money playing DONs.

Best of luck

Why would you bother learning DoNs? Seriously every site that offers them doesn't police their sites enough for cheats so they're full of collusion. Ask your self this why would the biggest best run and most policed site pokerstars remove DoN's? Easy they were rampant with collusion constantly and to hard continually police and monitor.

DoNs are very good for tight players who play the bubble well.

Don't forget when setting up SnG Wiz that the payout structure is 20,20,20,20,20 assuming a 10-seat SnG, otherwise it will be giving you the wrong data.

Best of luck,

I had read a few times people saying this, but when I had been looking at hands it said DoN but it hadnt been tagged as a DoN so I'm going to have to go back and look at the hands again now to see if I was actually making the right decisions or not.

Looking in HEM I think Ive played about 300 DoN now, but not totally sure as the tags are all over the place.

Will have to try and sort them out and have a better look at them

thanks for everyones replies

300 is not enough to really say smth serious about your game, i think u need at least 1000 don played.

There is money to be won on every format if you're expert on it.

Ideally, you should deviate from Nash ranges to get even more money (exploit); e.g. if an opponent is known to call too wide on the bubble, then shove narrower.

I don't understand the advice to learn DoNs to learn 'ICM in general'; it sounds like learning to learn, which is not bad, but in every new SnG format, we have to relearn Nash ranges - they're different. I don't mind the Nash ranges on bubbles of usual 6-9-man SnGs (though I like to play Twister that is winner-takes-all and doesn't require ICM at all :f_tongue:, which doesn't mean that ranges are harder or easier to learn there, they require the same effort but are different), but I hate the Nash ranges of DoNs and hyper satellites, where, to make things worse, FGS (future game simulation) becomes necessary because stacks usually become shorter than in turbos and blinds start mattering more. My personality is just too loose for DoNs.
