Got to NL100-200 in 2009 (ended up with a 10-15k BR by the end of the year)
Playing 200-600 in 2010 but wasn't really winning much at mid-stakes
My progress wasn't all that fast but at the same time I probably wasn't all that serious. I did take part in many rake races in both years which might have slowed down my progress in terms of studying the game.

there will always be money to be made for those who are willing to put in the effort
but if you are referring to easy money where you just read a few forum posts and books and expect to make several K a month, those days are long over.
Dusty mentioned that the guys playing during the early days had to figure out shit on their own without having everything spoon fed to them.
While I agree with this assessment for those at the very top (nosebleed players), the guys playing SSNL and MSNL had it easy.
To give you an example, to reach the skill level of a 5/10 player in 2006, one would probably only need 200 hours of dedicated study and deliberate practice. In 2014, one would probably need 500-1000 hours to reach the same stakes. The current skillcap is just that much higher
What's your take on the rake increases on stars and the whole Amaya thing? Any chance another site might actually start competing with stars to end the monopoly?

it makes sense from their POV to raise the Rake. People bitch about how they will leave PS but the truth is that most of us have no better option (the rake is still the most competitive in the business).
If they reduce the SNE rakeback significantly in 2016, I will consider leaving pokerstars. Now I'm still trying to amass as much wealth as possible before shit gets worse so I should be expecting to work really hard in 2015.
