I don't know why but I can't see the '2+2 forum version' of hands anymore at weaktight. I wish the results weren't shown.

prebs85: 36/28, af 4, hands 200. My read on him was that he cold called his whole open raising range no matter what, so his called doesn't narrow his range at all.

I'm not really sure about my play after the flop. On the turn I felt that I needed to pot control because the A is such a bad card. On the river I didn't know where I was at any more, but because I checked the turn I pretty much have to call. He could be turning a ton of hands into bluffs here thinking that I just cbet the flop then gave up. Is there a better way to play this?

Well, I like the hand, but for another reason. I don't check the turn for pot control but I do it because I ask myself what worse hand does call my turnbet?
KK is usually still good on the turn, the A is more ore less a brick. River is another blank and calling is fine there.
nh!

villain plays well

without history I agree with Tribun, but a thin valuebet on the turn is also possible against a station/with history

even against a station i think you get more value by checking behind turn and vbeting river . even a station is likely to fold when the A comes and you shoot again but when you cbh hell never fold anything when you fire turn + he will fire some bluffs by hiself

i think it's about 50/50, between times when he has like a middle pair and times when he has a random gutshot that calls a bet on the turn but folds river unimproved.

i like your line and think it extracts maximum value in the long run vs most standard opponents who would fold mid pockets etc on the turn but call a river bet with them.

however, vs this opp. i think there could be made an argument for betting the turn because he could easily have 67, 34, 45, 56 and be willing to call a turn bet. he also could have any pocket pair, knowing that, if u check back turn and bet river, it's for value 100% vs his likely 1 pair holding range. so he might think the A is a perfekt barrel card and decides to call the turn.

to check behind is the best way here. u dont have to protect against something. and u induce a lot of bluffs!

One aspect that didn't come up is balancing: if we would c-bet the flop with air, we'd second barrel the turn for sure. Furthermore, we'd also bet our Ax hands. If we cb here, its "obvious" for a good hand reader that we have a hand with SD value but not TP... Hence, against a good reg I'd fire a second barrel here. Furthermore, I'd v-bet my KK vs notorious stations or people that think at the level "he bets always here given the scare card, i call my pocket!". If balancing is not an issue and you expect him to fold a decent amount of pockets vs. a turn bet and expect to get river bluffs or calls, then the line you chose is best.

Really good explanation by Thorsten why you should bet the turn.

hm, yes, but:

Is that important in this exact situation? I say no, because the opponent plays 36/28 and there is no great history. If the situation would be another one I would agree.

I say yes, because especially these laggy opponents get so suspicious that they might call you down with a pocket pair.

The same guy might get so encouraged based on our weak check that he bluffs the river like 100% of the times. ;)
