I was asked if I would be interested in creating a blog. After thinking about it for a couple of weeks I decided "Why Not". MY GOAL---- To win enough money playing on-line through pokerstrategy to go to the 2013 WSOP and play in a couple of events. I do not have a lot of free time to play during the week as I work from 5:30am-to-5:30pm Monday to Friday give or take an hour. Working for a living is highly overrated but it is a necessary evil as a way to a means. We all have obligations and bills and a certain lifestyle to maintain. This is my cross to bear. Reality sucks--get used to it. I will copy and paste what I wrote as my introduction and then post anything and everything that comes to mind in this blog. Brutal honesty is my motto. Ask me anything and I will give you a straight answer. Whenever I get time to play I will post my results here. After all isn't that what we all want? Positve results. They say never be results orientated but I say that is a crock as it is the positive results we are looking for or else we wouldn't play. I play all games and all variations depending on my mood. Lately though POT-LIMIT OMAHA is where you will find me 80% of the time. I do dab in touraments but have been playing mostly the free-rolls until I build up my bank roll. OK lets get started I'm a 58 year old grandfather who has been playing poker off and on (depending on my lifestyle at the time) my whole life. I stated playing on-line in 2002 at aaa site that has just recently re-started up. I was given a $10 comp by the site and by 2005 I had earned in excess of $150,000 on-line. I also had just come back from a trip to Sweden which was All expenses paid. I was given this trip by the site I was playing on as a promotion. I had moved up in stakes to bring in $2,000 which as everyone knows is above my brankroll. I took a very bad beat (don't we all), which cost me a pot of $10,000. **sniffle here** I lost to a 1 outer and was so disgusted I cashed out everything and quit playing for 2 years. If anyone is interested here is the hand. Playing 3 handed the game has been playing for about 3 hours Playing blinds 10-20 Hereo $5,600 villan $8,000 3td $2,000 (just joined) Hero B 10-10 villan SB 8-8 3td BB I raise to $100 villan calls 3td folds Flop 10-5-5 it goes check-check Turn 8 villan checks, hero bets $200, villan check raises to $600 I re-raise to $1,200 villan pushes all-in. Hero calls. River 8. I was so disgusted I quit playing on-line after that for 3 years. After cooling off for 2 years I ended up playing live in Brantford On. in the 2007 spring championships where I won a little over $30,000 for the week. I final tabled all 3 tournament that week with 3td,7th and 4th place finishes. There is a blurb about me in the summer edition of the old Canadian Poker Player Magazine. MY CLAIM TO FAME. HAHA. I quit for awhile and then went to play in the WPT $10,000 buy-in at the Fallsview Casino in Niagra Falls Ontario. Day one went well but I made a mistake on day 2 and ended up knocking myself out by getting it all in preflop with pocket QQ vrs pocket AA.. Oops. Because I am my own worst critic I once again quit for awhile. I also had a 10th place finish on stars in 2005 in the $1,000 buy in limit tournament for $6,600. I won my seat in a $50 mega seat qualifier. I joined this site in 2008 but have only been kicking around here. I plan on reserrecting my playing whenever i can but I do have a full-time job and a family to attend to. This is me. I stated this not to brag but just to let you know where my head is at these days. Reading between the lines you will get the impression my bankroll management is not very good and has done me in. Either I'm running hot and spending it as fast as I make it, or I run cool and because I haven't kept anything back for a downturn I end up with no POKER BANKROLL. Let that be a lesson to you all. At any rate I'm grinding small stakes on Everest thanks to pokerstrategy. P.S. I much prefer live but do not have the time to invest. I started out playing Bring in $10 pot limit omaha and have played some free-rolls and a couple of small buy-in MTTs. I had a 2nd place finish in a $3 buy-in MTT. I have also tilted off some money. Sucks to be me sometimes. Bankroll as of now--$203. All results and games played will be posted and anything else anyone wants to talk about that affects our day to day lives.

Haven't had anything good to say so that is why I haven't posted in a long time.

Jr had a very pleasant experience last week with an on-line poker room/casino.
He hadn't played on this particular site for over 3 years he told me when out of the blue he gets an e-mail from them giving him $10 as a welcome back comp to either their poker room or casino. I have not said the name as I do not see the site listed on here and do not want to piss anyone off by promoting the competition. If the powers that be say it is OK then I will post the name. Let's just say they are a middle-of-the road poker room with a large sports betting arm and on-line casino. But I digress. Back to the story.
Jr said he did not feel like grinding it out on poker so he took it to their casino. On his 4th spin on the slot machine he was playing he hit for $100. So far so good. Then he reads that you have to bet 50x the comp. amount of $10 before you can cash it out. That sucks. SO now he keeps track of his wagers. Back and forth he goes winning just enough to keep the initial win in his account. After he had bet $450 he noticed he had his account up to $200. Great he thought, even if he looses the $50 he has to wager he will still be able to cash out $150 as he needs the money. While wagering that last $50 he hit again for over $700. Now when his obligations were met he had $860 in his account. He blew off the $60 trying to build it up more but cashed out $800.
He got the cheque in the mail yesterday.
Nice eh!! He said his girlfriend was bugging him for his 1/2 of the rent money and the gambling gods provided it for him.
He was given a free $10. Played the slots with the free money for 2 days and gets a cheque in the mail a week later for $800.
How to turn nothing into something with a little luck.
Proof that not all on-line casinos are fixed.

Great tale! My only MTT 1st place came on a freeroll ticket that they sent me out of the blue -- I think it was William Hill.

So the joy moves around.

Hey Marx, how come you usually comment on the poker strategy comics that you didn't like the comic?
Isn't it better to just ignore them if you are never satisfied with them?

1st-I have also commented when I like them as well.
2nd-If they were not looking for constructive criticism they would disable the comment section. My tastes are no different then most people's. By giving them feedback. which they can ignore if they wish, it helps them make a better comic.
3td-Who asked for your opinion. Just kidding all posts are welcome here. Fell free to post anything your heart desires, any time you want to. This blog is open to all and I wish more people would post here. Good as well as bad. I can take it.

Had to take the day off work to take the wife in for day surgery. They put a camera down her throat and in to her lungs to see what is going on.

Because of that I got to play my favorite tourney, the Omaha Hi-Lo 3x turbo with re-buys and an add-on. I usually play this on Saturday and Sunday mornings but there was one starting at 2pm today.

We get down to the final table and the phone starts ringing, the wife is talking in my ear she wants to go out for supper, etc., etc.

1st- Phone call.--I had ordered some custom parts for my Mustang and part of the order was wrong when I received it yesterday. I called the place I ordered the parts from "American Muscle" to complain and they said they would look in to it and get back to me. Well they were getting back to me and wanted me to go on their web site while they were on the phone and I was on the final table of this tourney. I am trying to balance this and the wife comes in the room and asks when are we going out for supper. To much for my brain all at once I guess and I played a hand I would normally fold and got knocked out.

It is all good though.
1-The wife is back to her old self having recuperated from the procedure.
2-American Muscle said they will send the right parts and to keep the ones they sent in error.
3-I ended up finishing the tournament in 3td place for a little over $400. My bank roll had been on a downward slide lately so this will help a lot towards getting it back up there.

Can't get the picture to post. Something is wrong here I believe. At any rate.

One piece of advice that has helped my tournament game lately came from an old interview of Stu Unger that I watched a week ago. In the interview he said

"FOLD AND YOU LIVE TO FOLD AGAIN"!!
Profound words from the man I regard as the greatest player to have never had the chance to prove it. A lot of people he played against swear he was a card prodigy. Cocaine got him before he reached his full potential.
