Hey guys! This is my first post on here, and I hope you can give me some better insights in this hand I played yesterday.
We were playing a three-handed home game (live) and I was already deep since 2players busted and decided to quit for the day.
"We just play for fun", and only 1 other person seems to actively try to get better. He sits on the big blind and is a fairly agressive player. I think his online play is better than mine (his winrate says so), but often enough I beat him live.
(EDIT: this player limps aces/kings often preflop, but he does this wanting to reraise most of the time.)
So.. the hand:
Hero (button) chips: 250bb
sb chips: 80bb
bb chips: 170bb
Hero cards Q♥: T♥:
Preflop:
Hero raises 3x bb (I know they call almost every hand to defend their blinds and often check on the big blind. I raised just not to narrow my range to marginal hands)
sb calls
bb calls
pot: 9bb
flop: 7♠: 3♥: 4♣:
sb checks
bb checks
hero raises 6bb (I cbet to steal the pot, since two checks on such a dry board seems really weak)
sb calls
bb calls (Strange, 2 calls.. I thought they probably just didn't believe me and called with A or even K high or a straight draw with a pair/backdoor flushdraw, I'm ready to let the hand go on a turn raise)
pot: 27bb
turn: T♠:
sb checks
bb checks
hero bets 20bb (my thinking: The turn card was great, Top pair and fairly good kicker would do the job on this board for sure! I didn't want to give them any free cards so I polarised my range by betting this big)
sb quickly folds
bb thinks for a while, builds a pile of chips next to him, thinks again, and raises to 80bb!
Hero thinks for a long time, He knew it didnt make any sense on this board. I know the bb is an agressive player who overbets the pot sometimes, but i've never seen him 3bet bluff so large ever before. Since I polarised my range, i found it really odd I was facing a 3bet that large. I explained my thinking out loud and told him I was gonna fold or all-in. He could have me beat with JJ QQ KK AA, sets and 56 for the straight, but would he be betting them like this? I don't think he could have a double pair since he had to call with a very marginal holding, but he COULD be defending his bb very wide (as he often does). I Thought for a very long time and folded.
bb shows A6o and takes the pot.
I FELT MISERABLE!! I just can't get the hand out of my mind, I knew it didnt make any sence but yet i folded. What do you guys think about this one? How do you approach a situation like this?
