Had to move down in stakes tonight, rough feeling - Anyone else ever deal with this?

Answer to your question is absolutely yes.

This hasn't happened to me very often because of the following reasons: 1) when I was starting my poker career I didn't have the discipline to move down, I wanted to make it work on a higher limit and I ended up busting my bankroll 2) after that I started using a more conservative bankroll management and that let me take bigger shots.

Not many days ago I had a 10 buy-in downswing in just 2000 hands. That is not very common but has happened to me a couple of times during the last year.
Losing a couple of stacks during a session is normal.

So if you have only 20 buy-ins (kinda aggressive brm) it is totally normal to bounce between limits when taking shots.

I had to take 4 shots at NL10 until I could stay on that limit. (within 3 months)
Every single time it felt like I was dying inside.
Once, I remember, I kept losing and losing even at NL5 and was close before going down to NL2.

That stuff is just going to happen. Its a up and down (with more up when you are a winning player).

That's why it is called "taking a shot" at the next level. When your bankroll is just big enough to play the next level, one bad session -- or even one bad hand -- can set you back. So you build up and try again.

A couple of things you can try:
 Play tighter than usual at the new limit until you see how people play there.
 Don't move up until you have enough so that one bad session won't pound you back. Bear in mind that you can still have two (or more) losing sessions in a row.
