I’m not sure, but at the beginning when they started with the deal the jackpot was over 400k if I remembered correctly.

The previous highest jackpot was approximately 287,860 back in Dec 2017.
The best (and I suppose only) time to play is when one gets the pop up notification that someone is about to play the Jackpot round. That way you get the small chance that if the jackpot is won by that player (or anyone else within 12 hours) you get a dollar or two for a 7 starcoins investment.
No, not at all. You get about 90 seconds if I am not mistaken. Plenty of time for the lottery to load and play. I have, indeed, won it this way.

Unfortunately you are incorrect , in the blurb on the Deal ( as mentioned somewhere previously in this thread , only hands played in the Deal prior to a player hitting a chance at the jackpot count towards a payout , I highly doubt you were singled out for individual payout , all those who believe otherwise are merely contributing to the next jackpot , pot .

Tried it once to play when someone else was going for the jackpot, he won and i didnt get my share.
You have to play before someone runs for the big pot
Even if waiting for the pop-up did work, playing one hand of The Deal every 12 hours when the jackpot is high enough should already give a decent ROI. Good enough to be profitable in the long run, at least.
Besides, I prefer not to have the Pokerstars client open 24/7.

Since I've been keeping track in August 2017, my average return per StarsCoin is $0.078
this is 7x the "standard" payout of $0.01 per coin.
The lowest return was 0.025, and the highest -- well that's hard to judge because I put nothing in due to the fact that I got Deal tickets in a promo, so I got $3.06 for nothing.
I am pretty sure that I also played The Deal at the instant the pop-up appeared, and also did not get a share -- but that was a long time ago.

It sounds like you are asking if in between the winning of the spin and the actual spin if that playing counts, however, there is no wait. As soon as the player is offered the spin he is immediately whisked away and the spin takes place. There really would be no time for someone new to start participating to receive a % of the split.
I hope the above clears up any confusion and answers any questions you had regarding The Deal.

From an earlier email was this piece of information which may also be of interest...
For every 7 StarsCoin that are used to buy-in to The Deal, we add $0.03 to the progressive jackpot – 80% of this goes into the current jackpot and 20% is set aside for future jackpots – so it gets bigger and bigger until someone hits it

From the 2nd quote, it appears that The Deal is definitely +EV for PokerStars, since they pay out 42.8% of the standard payout. However it also appears to be +EV for players who play only when the reward is high.
In the current cycle, I started playing much earlier than normal, since I had a bunch of tickets.
By the time the tickets ran out, I had won 46 StarsCoin in subsidiary prizes. Since then, I've won a fair few more in subsidiary prizes, including trips 3 times.
My net investment so far is 30 StarsCoin
We'll see how this plays out...

I confirmed this at about 5 minutes ago, when a spin was missed.
The jackpot counter held at 308,381 during the countdown and spin, and jumped to 308,426 immediately after.
This tells me that players who played during the countdown and spin had their play entered into the pool after the spin completed.
It is quite possible that in the early days of The Deal the "play during the countdown" technique may have worked, but it clearly no longer does.

Perhaps it worked in the early days, or I had played the deal during the last 12 hours.

I'll keep playing. As long as you remember that it is a lottery with a surpassingly small chance of winning, it doesn't hurt, and the periodic rewards are quite spendable.I also noticed this morning that the increase in each 12-hour period is increasing, so more people playing.

Yeah. But it also means you are losing around 50% of your rakeback... not that 50% of close to zero matters much, but still...
In my experience (so far) it has actually increased the rakeback.
The "book value" of StarsCoin is 100 StarsCoin == $US 1.00
or 1 cent per coin.
My average return playing The Deal to date is 7.8 cents per coin spent.
The catch is that once you start, if you stop you may lose it all. So far that hasn't happened to me since I started keeping track last August.

That's exactly it.
The cash windfalls you get when someone takes down the jackpot, which is bound to happen eventually, will almost certainly be better than the $0.01 face value of the StarsCoins that you blew on The Deal, provided that you waited for a good jackpot size and only played one hand every 12 hours.
The actual returns of playing The Deal yourself are more or less negligible, since it's like a classic casino game with a house edge.
