Good luck to you, DaDude!

I admire that you have the courage to go your own way. I've no idea whether it's possible - what you're doing - but good on you for trying.

My sympathies about yr recent troubles. I know exactly what you mean about overconfidence and thinking you are unbeatable. I'm coming to realise there's no magic formula for success - only the slow accumulation of small advantages over your opponents - in the form of knowledge and experience - as in chess.

Best of luck and stay positive. Remember, assuming you started with nothing, it's still a great achievement to build a BR of $300+, even if you have to lose some hefty amounts along your way up the limits.

Tim

One question: why?

It may look like that on paper, but its completely different. I get paid off way more than I should, although lately hasn't been working out . I can 15+ table, its quick decisions, kind of SSS but with more action. I like it :)

Thanks for your kind words tim! :) You play chess? ever play on fics?

I'm hoping my new attitude will help things fall into place better. Last night didn't go so well though :P I think down 6 BI (not horrible for SSS but not as well as I'd hoped) but I ran about 10 BI under equity, so we'll see . I'm going to keep on chugging!

I started with around 250 for this project, so still up around 100 or so. :)

All the best to you then :)

So no update for awhile... been packing up to move home, been with gf, or been drunk! so not too bad of a life, but not much room for poker... kinda had a point where i let poker take over my life, and not gonna let that happen in the last 2 weeks im still here!

I leave sunday, get home and then grinding begins . Times line up with american fish... life will be good! ;)

BACK TO MINNESOTA!

So just got back in after about 19 hours of travelling and sat down to play a little session. Was pretty up and down, (isnt it always :P) but ended up about $25. Was fairly late american time when i started, around midnight or so... so not many fish, more regulars, but just wanted to play! I'm gonna be grinding alot from now on! Hopefully get up to gold star, and trying to get to 10k fpps for the $160 instant bonus but im like 5k short, and im silver star which means I'd need like 3.4 or so vpp's, which might be a stretch for the rest of the month, but is my goal. So we'll see!

Also I've decided to use a more aggressive BRM, I think allows for more opportunities, although I will have to move down probably more often. I will move up at 30 BI for a limit, but move down once i've lost 5, until I build it back up.

I'm also considering moving over to full tilt. Not sure about the level of SH for NL25-50 there. But just for rakeback I think it would be worth it. I would have around $166 for this month alone in rakeback which is no small amount. If anyone has any thoughts on this please let me know!

FRUSTRATION

I was even more frustrated than this!

Basically had a great day, been in minnesota. Got everything set up for my iphone i'll get tomorrow. Was beautiful day, exercised (trying to get back in shape after too much belgian beer), was really good, decided to play some poker to top it off, and well... didn't go so well. Down a little more than $60 but was $100 under EV. Huge Difference, just bad beat after bad beat after bad beat. I know EV doesn't always mean something, but looking back, i was making the right plays, my money was getting in at the right place, but i just couldn't finish. And thats quite frustrating for me. Heres the graph

Quite frustrating, couldn't win a flip to save my life, and when i was ahead, got bad beats. 4 BI from having to move down a limit, which is frustrating when I know I'm playing well.... so we'll see.

Hands played-> 799
Money won-> -63.70 (-6 BI)
bb/100-> -15.94

BR-> $287.45

Hi Dadude
I'm following your blog and trying to make my own SH SSS strategy, can you explain , just a little bit, your strategy?

Swings Swings Swings

Quick swingy session before dinner! Was quickly about to where I had to move down a limit, then slowly came back up, above where i started, then back down. This is quite frustrating, I'm thinking I have to be on downswing because over the last 4.5k hands I've been $210 under ev AND it seems i'm still running into WAY too many monsters after pushing against maniacs. So I still think my way of playing is plus EV, just i gotta keep pulling through it, and im starting to lose confidence a little bit. So we'll have to wait and see!

NBA playoffs is on tonight, so after dinner going to be watchin that, then probably an hour or 2 session before bed! So i'll post graph of this session after that, but heres what I was talking about with the downswing..

So kinda rough but we'll see what'll happen, I gotta stick with it, and got some bonus's coming soon I think, so hopefully will pull through!

Its basically alot of restealing, and push 3betting depending on the pfr from the position of the people. Don't want to exactly give it all away, not myself who came up with all of it, so have to respect that guys wishes :)

So it's stats-depending...another guy told me the same thing..so it seems to be the only way.
Thanks for the help and keep up the good work.

Yes EXTREMELY stat depending.

Although dunno about the good work, still not going good, and I'm down to NL25 again.

Yesterday again didn't go so well...

Because of changing the time on pokerstars, its actually kind of messed up now. The first 363 hands were actually the second session before bed, and the rest after that was the swingy session I'd had in the afternoon. But yeah. I really dunno what I'm doing wrong... guess I'll just keep chugging away. Move down to NL25 but if I get back up to $300 I'll take another shot at NL50 until I get back down to $250 again.

Also I've decided rakeback is quite important... if so just since I've started this project I'd have another $200 in my roll. So I think this friday I will cashout because I'm going up to the cabin for the weekend, than deposit at fulltilt and play there for the rakeback! So yeah! :)

Hands played-> 771
Money won-> -$26.45 (-2.5 BI)
bb/100-> -6.86

BR-> $261.00 (depressing)

Still going down...

don't really wanna write a long post, not in a great mood so heres the graph.

Got up enough to start NL50 lost 4 flip... and came up against AA, (the big down on my graph) that lost my 5 BI stop loss I have when moving up, went back down to NL25.. and lost more.. the end

Hands played-> 2538
Money won-> -61.95 (-6 BI)
bb/100-> -4.54

BR-> $198.80

So got a good sleep, woke up with a positive attitude ready to go play ......

and still denied...

Hands played-> 605
Money won-> -$22.05 (-4 BI)
bb/100-> -14.58

BR-> $198.65 (bought some bonus's)

Going up to the cabin in about half an hour, won't be back til late monday night. Hopefully things will go better next week, just gotta try to keep my head up. Oh and im officially in negative by $6 since when I started this SH challenge.

So got back today, I decided I'm going to be less result oriented, and more play oriented. Which I think is my problem. I need to play less tables. Think about my play and focus on the problems and playing good, instead of whether I'm up or down this session. I think this will be good for me, as usually I'm constantly refreshing HEM to see how I'm doing. Wish me luck :)

Hey Dadude,

I'm sorry to hear about your downswing. But hey, we gotta get used to it. I just recovered from a 30BI downswing, 2nd time ever that I have such a long downer. I'm getting used to it I think. One thing I decided to change was my BRM, I'm doing 75 BI BRM now, and I can tell you that it makes grinding much more comfortable. Of course you take longer to move up limits, so it's really up to what life-style you prefer =D

Anyway I wish you the best of luck with your SH SSS endeavour!

I saw that you are thinking about moving to FTP. I was thinking about it also, Stars just gives too little bonuses. Even these $160 instant cash don't get near a good rakeback deal. I was wondering if FTP's rakeback is worth it, they give you 27% rakeback, but they charge 10% rake isn't it? So in the end wouldn't be just paying about 7% rake in FTP rather than a 5% in Stars?

Thanks dandy! good to know people are reading every once in awhile lol.

Well I dont think I'll move to fulltilt atm. I cashed out to moneybookers, I'm now in America but figured that since I have my moneybookers tied to my european bank account everything would be fine. I cashed out of stars, went to cash into full tilt. annnnnnnd NOPEE can't deposit with moneybookers to a gambling site because im under american IP.....

Damn that sucks, but its ok i'll go back to stars...
NOPEEE cant do that either! Can't deposit with moneybookers to stars, only withdraw..(??!???? wtf?!) shit!

so ended up having my gf in belgium download pokerstars so she could deposit for me from my account lol. So for the time being have to stay on stars until I find another solution!

Took me about a day to get that figured out and then i left for the weekend. Got back last night, wrote that post and sat down ready to grind! ...

NOOPPPPEEEE HEM Doesn't work either. problems when i start it up, error message. And when I try to import hands. E-mailed HEM some guys supposed to help me over teambuilder. So... can't really play SSS SH without stats at all. Can't play BSS. So played a little razz was almost exactly break even. And then started playing some 1.75 18 man sng's just for fun. Sets of 15. Played 3, and so far up about $15. Just for fun, I enjoy them. But I really wanna get HEM finished so I can grind out the rest of the month to become gold star. Need 800 vpp.... so kinda pain in the ass. hopefully Get that figured out soon. No other news for the moment! Take it easy all. peace out

So got HEM to finally work. But ended up losing my database. So, I can either continue on SSS SH, starting from scratch to make a database. Or start FL or BSS. I really hate to quit the SSS SH, especially when even though my roll doesn't show it, my all in EV has been steadily climbing. Although I know that for one hand the EV doesn't mean its the right decision. If its a fairly linear line up over 20k+ hands, i have to be in the right direction. But my roll has taken a huge hit, Im down to around $220. So we'll have to see.

Ok so I've been talking to some of the Coach's/high stakes palyers from the french section that have played SSS SH. And frankly just since the players are still quite fishy on NL25/NL50 SH, SSS Sh isn't the greatest. The coach I talked to for awhile on skype reccomended playing SSS FR til like NL400-600 then changing. However on stars I believe theres quite a bit of regulars that grind for supernova and such. So I'll play regular SSS until at least NL100 and then evaluate :). Will be alot more boring than SSS SH, but will be more effective at the lower levels. So I'll have to change and hopefully be back to SSS SH before the end of august! Kind of ambitious, but I'm planning on grinding quite a bit!

I'm starting out on NL25 where I'm going to use just basic SSS strategy and 24 table grind the crap out of it, with some steals and maybe resteals.

Current goals are to

a) read all the relevant SSS material ( 11/16)
b) Watch all the SSS videos (0/21)
c) post hands and be more active in the hand judging forums
d) Watch coachings when possible (because of time difference)

Will be fairly dull at first on SSS, but then I hope for it to be an adventure up into the nosebleed limits of SSS SH!

Starting Bankroll- $213.30
Lets make something happen :)
