Hi guys,

I was wondering what happens to a UK resident playing from UK if he played on a pokersite (or in a homegame where rake is taken) that does not have a UK-license?
Google did not help much unfortunately.

Can you get fined for participating in illegal? gambling in UK? Or do they only try to fine the sites?

Are you allowed to keep your winnings in case you are doing well?

Are winnings from illegal? gambling tax free in UK?

Any help very appreciated

If you're really worried, maybe you could ask a lawyer.
Could cost you money, and I'm guessing that the real answer would be "it depends", which means:

It is OK until you get caught, then it is up to a judge

Thank you. I am a bit surprised that I did not get an definite answer yet tbh. I thought this would be a question that has been discussed years before and should be standard knowledge for British pokerplayers, especially Pros.

I however found the offences under the Gambling Act https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/for-licensing-authorities/GLA/Appendix-D-Summary-of-offences-under-the-Gambling-Act-2005.aspx but it is only about providing illegal gambling not about taking part

Generally, unless something has been specified as illegal, I generally presume that it is OK
