Who is trapping who

I hate it when this happens.
The problem is that at this level players will do this — and should to this — with hands like AK

A bare overpair is a made hand, but nowhere near the nuts.
I think x/r is a bit overplayed — but others will disagree.

Bet/Call works for me OTF — but fold if the raise is a shove players at this limit play pretty much face up.
OTT and OTR I would bet 1/3 to 1/2 pot, but on those streets fold to a shove.

Why the tricky play? Bet bet bet on every street. Play in straight forward manner your top range. Even against aggro players you should bet most of the time.

P.S. When the idea is to trap him you should check/call every street not to check/raise OTT. That way you only narrow his range instead of keeping it wide.

Bigger size 3bet preflop for nearly 0.80 and on flop I prefer cbet. On turn after check-call flop and nów check-raise You represent set or straight with 87 (turn complete straight for this band).

I missed that — good point.

Remember that in this particular hand, you still lose a stack, but at least you lose it playing it properly.
Imagine instead opponent bluff opened with 78s.
He may even call your 3Bet — but a larger 3Bet would get the money preflop (bonus: no rake)
Now OTF your CBet gets the pot.

3bet sizing is indeed to small. Especially out of position I would make it at least 3x for value. Post-flop I would Cbet all day and if you check you need to call on every street to keep villains range as wide as possible. If I would check/raise the turn I would most likely shove. With a normal raise size you will be committed.

I don't know if it applies any more or not, but there once was a strategy that went something like, "if you plan to get it all in by the river, get it all in now"

With no stats for V I'm gonna are on the side of caution with what I say

I recommend learning how to quickly calculate hand combinations at the table, I think it gives great, fast insight into where you are in the hand. If we say V calls a turn raise with KQ,AK, 55,66,99,KK we will see this is close

12 combo of sets
6 combos of AK
12 combos of KQ

Which means you are getting called by worse 60% of the time and loosing 40% so raising the turn makes it very close imo, again to me this is an unknown player so I'm being cautious.

You can argue for a wider range and a tighter range because we have no information on player. That's exactly why I think you are better off keeping a villains range as wide as possible while you extract value. Narrowing an unknown players range means we are starting guess too much for my liking
