@CoreySteel: Yeah It does get a bit boring at times. I can only play 6 tables because my monitor is tiny

@TravoltaJOHN: Thanks. Also following your blog. NL25 is probably easier than NL10 on pokerstars.

3rd Sep – 6th Sep: Rollercoaster - it rhymes with toaster!

The last four days have been kind of frustrating and reminded me that I am still a fish. I took some terrible beats and lost KK vs AA twice. Actually, I'm starting to think you should fold KK against some players. Anyway, the tables haven't been that good so I've been playing against a lot of regulars. Which is bad for my winrate – but good in that it highlights weaknesses in my game and will hopefully help me improve and get used to certain spots. Have been reading sklansky/miller. Interesting theory analysis, but not very practical so far.

Also played a session of FL SH with only 2 tables to try and concentrate more on every decision. I lucked out a few times, but was fairly happy with how it went overall. Someone from Poker Strategy said hi, but I'm not sure who it was.

Aside from that have been playing PLO2-10. This game is seriously weird. Thinking about all the draw combinations and possible villain hands gives me a headache. I lost a few stacks in the first 100 hands before realising that mid set isn't very good. Since then have been only trying to get the nuts and haven't hit a flop forever. More boring than SSS?

In which the hero cries: I read the situation correctly and he gets rewarded for his bad play. Woe.

Weekly hand of fail: Volume One

A hand that is played so badly,

it makes me react rather madly.

Preflop: The light 3bet is defiantly on against this guy. Maybe it's better to make it 3.5x when they raise 3bb though.

Flop: He mini-donks into me. This kind of looks like a block bet with a draw or medium strength made hand. MP3 would probably c/r a strong hand or maybe donk 3/4 pot if he thought I was too weak to make a cbet. The two options here are raise/ship the flop, or call down on odds/outs. Arguments for raising: I will often get the best hand to fold, and if he has a draw he might shove and be dominated. For calling: I have position, great odds, can maximise value from weak hands, low variance.

Turn: I have absolutely no idea what I was thinking here. No worse hands are going to call. No better hands are going to fold. It is just total fail.

River: After he calls the turn I am pretty much always behind. But I feel committed with trips after I needlessly inflated the pot on the turn.

Lesson learned: Think the situation through before going, 'lul pair + flush draw = raise!'.

SteveOLatte: nice reraise **** stick

Interesting hand:

Against most players I would bet flop, bet/fold turn, check/call river. CO is a really aggressive TAG that I have reads on. I think he would have raised the flop with a draw so I decided to check/call the turn to get the most value out of worse hands when he floats. Check/raise is an option but I don't need to protect and don't want to isolate myself against a better had. River: there aren't many worse hands that will call if I donk, so I check/called again to hopefully induce a second bluff.

7th Sep – 13th Sep: Training!

So yeah. Pretty quiet week. I didn't really feel like playing much, so spent a lot of my free time watching videos, reading the strategy articles and etc. Am trying to do the non-results oriented thing and not look at my graph/stats very often. This has been pretty good actually; it's much more fun to play poker when your not constantly going 'oh noe teh munny!' after you loose a few stacks. Hmm, I think I got called a donk or fish a record amount of times as well this week.

Weekly hand of fail: Volume Two

A hand that is played so badly,

it makes me react rather madly.

Doesn't really need much explanation. I beat almost nothing on the turn. Only thing to do is check behind and hope he has AJ/AQ and checks the river.

October: Oh hai

Update:

So I haven't really been posting much. Just cos it gets a bit pointless going, 'Oh hai, this week I grinded NL25, look at all these standard hands, and isn't my graph pretty looking? K bye.'

Last month I was really lazy and didn't get enough volume in. So goals for this month are:

1) Play at least 40k hands.

2) Start posting some hands for evaluation.

3) Give NL50 a shot at some stage.

4) Stop looking at my graph in the middle of sessions.

5) Stop making plays purely to make my non-showdown line look better

Interesting Hand

Something different this week. I decided to try and analyse one of my hands to see if I could learn stuff.

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Known players:
[tg]MP1(Hero)$39.70:///////;MP2$18.65:///////;MP3$41.45:///////;CO$25.00:///////;BU$25.80:///////;SB$26.65:///////;BB$10.85:///////;UTG2$23.55:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with Q:d, A:c.
UTG2 folds, Hero raises to $1.00, 3 folds, BU calls $1.00, 2 folds.

Flop: ($2.35) 8:s, A:d, J:s (2 players)
Hero bets $1.50, BU calls $1.50.

Turn: ($5.35) T:c (2 players)
Hero bets $3.00, BU raises to $8.50, Hero folds, BU gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $8.35.

On the flop we are value betting vs AT, Spade Aces, Spade Broadsways, Spade connectors, mid pairs that decide to call once.

The turn is very interesting. I expect villain to raise 99 and JJ on the flop since it's draw heavy, so an optimistic calling range is something like:

KsQs, AJ, AT, JsTs, Ts9s, 9s8s, 8s7s, 7s6s, 6s5s, AsQs, AQo, AsJs, AsTs, As9s, As8s, As7s, KsJs, KsTs, Ks9s, QsJs, Js9s, TT, 88, 77, 66, QsTs

AQ has around 54% equity.

The question now is whether we have a profitable value bet against his range.

Worse hands that will call:

Hand – combinations

Ts9s -1
9s8s - 1
8s7s - 1
As9s - 1
As7s - 1
KsJs - 1
KsTs - 1
Ks9s - 1
QsJs - 1
Js9s - 1
7s6s – 1
6s5s – 1
QsTs - 1

Better hands that will fold: Zero

Better hands that will call/raise:

Hand – combinations

KsQs - 1
AT - 6
AJ- 6
JsTs - 1
AsQs - 1
As8s - 1
TT - 3

So there are 13 combination's of worse hands that will call, 19 combinations of better hands, and 4 combination's of hands we split with. Clearly we don't have a value bet. It would be hard to justify a bet even if I was sure villain is raising AJ on the flop. Since this range is, after all, quite optimistic – he might not be flatting things like J9s pre-flop. Hands like FD + pair, or FD + gutshot might also raise the turn and force us to fold the best hand.

Choice of line therefore becomes check/call or check/fold.

If villain is floating his entire range, check/call is correct with 54% equity. But this also depends on whether he is calling mid pockets on that flop. Without reads I think I like check/fold.

As played I made a value bet since I am an abc fish that doesn't think things through. :f_love:

The end.
