BB: over 41 hands, 12/5
I find these situations quite often and especially with hands like these, late position 8's to Jacks, AJ/AQ/AK and i dont hit. Simply raising 7 bb and having a caller makes your cbet all in on the flop.
Perhaps some good advice in these situations, cause they cost me quite a lot i noticed.

it is ok the way you played it, if he catches or if he has the K then put it down to variance.

this is a pretty good spot to shove here, since the K hits out range pretty nicely.

You can also decide to shove preflop but the value you get form that move is LESS than if you would just raise to 6bb

I'd push preflop since 99 is amazing headsup, but sucks in playability postflop, specially in 3 way pots which can happen as well. I would only consider not doind this if the limper is passive. I hate being in this position on the flop, since I have a hard time extracting value from worse hands and I always pay of better hands.

shoving preflop against 1 limper with 2 players left to act is overplay imho.
i would raise it 5-6bb as u do.
with the BB calling i would put him most likely ahead of my range (with pfr5). after the BB check on the flop i would fire a 2$ conti bet as u wont have any more fold equity betting 3.5$ against a tight opponent like this. if he calls or raises the flop u are most likely beaten.
