Usually around 9 but depends on the traffic, takes a while for all 9 to fill. Would like to play 12 but then I'd need another monitor or have 3 of them overlapping which I'm not too keen on. Might look on the FT store see what I can get, I've got over 90K points to blow on something.

hey there . i am glad that i saw u write 33$ has worse players than lower limits cause my goal is to reach there until then end of April and i am worried a bit about how much that will affect my current roi :)

i dont know if u follow lessthanthree's blog but we had a nice arguement with some people about the ev line at sngs and since u have a ev line below your normal line would u like to share your thoughts about if u think ev line is accurated . Do you worry at all if ev line is correct and in the future u will have to run less good so both lines would be similar ?

wish u the best amd one last favour if its possible to summarise your roi/sample of sngs per limit 11-33$ to get an idea of what i should expect :)

I'm not sure if the EV line is accurate but I have heard that over large samples 10K+ games it is fairly close so I think it is a good indication. Even though I'm above EV now this shouldn't affect the future at all, luck doesn't have a memory it is just random. Having said that, if I played enough I'm sure I would end up below EV at some point due to variance. The way I think of the EV line is that it is one of many tools that I can use to analyse my game, it doesn't show everything but it can help. For example, if I get my money in preflop with KK and get called by AA this will show a -EV line but it is still +EV against villian's range. Personally I would like to know the details of how the line is calculated so I can decide if I think it is accurate.

Results: $11 8.2% over 269
$22 10.3% over 643
$33 3.2% over 669

I'm hoping to bump my ROI for the 33s up a bit more, hopefully up to around 5-7%. The 33s are tougher than I realised but with a bit of effort I think they are beatable. None of my samples are overly huge but I just moved up because I felt comfortable and my BR was sufficient.

gun can we exchange msn/skype details to chat about sng strategy?

imo you are one of the best sng players on these forums.

would love some outside opinions on adjustments to make moving up the limits

let me know if u want to.

Wow, thanks. Yeah I'm happy to exchange details, I just need to install skype, set up an account, buy a mic etc. I've downloaded it so I'm slowly getting there. I'll try to sort it out tomorrow, I'm currently at the airport in Alice Springs waiting for my stupid crappy Tiger flight that's 2 hours late. At least I managed to win back most of the cost of my ticket while sitting here. Also, for future reference, playing poker using a tethered iPhone without 3G coverage is the most painful experience ever (wait, only second to flying with Tiger). Folding AA preflop after someone shoved isn't as hilarious as it sounds.

Ok, quick update. Since I've been back I seem to be playing ok but not really making as much profit as I would like. I'm running at 9.6% ROI with 46%ITM, I seem to be placing 3rd way too often but oh well. Looks like when I'm ITM 50% it's 3rd and the rest between 1st and 2nd. I think I'll have to work on my ITM game if this continues for too much longer, hopefully it's just variance. Anyway, I'm approaching my goal of reaching a bankroll of $5K, at the moment I'm sitting just over $4.7K so I've set a short term goal of reaching this before the end of the month. Also, it will be nice when I get my end of year bonus ($475). I'm starting to think about what to do next, I'm wondering if I should step up with the big boys at higher limits $55+ or stay at the $36s. Either way I'm going to stay at the $36s for at least another 1000 games so I know that my game is watertight. Finally, here is a hand I played while on holiday which made me laugh, $30ST 'interesting' bubble play by SB.

No Limit Holdem Tournament
4 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com
$28 + $2 Sit & Go (Super Turbo)

Stacks:
Hero (360)
BTN (450)
SB (840)
BB (1,050)

Blinds: 40/80

Pre-Flop: (120, 4 players) Hero is CO 7♥ 2♠
Hero folds, 1 fold, SB calls 40, BB goes all-in 1,050, SB goes all-in 760

Flop: K♣ A♦ 8♦ (1,890, 2 players, 2 all-in)

Turn: J♦ (1,890, 2 players, 2 all-in)

River: 8♠ (1,890, 2 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: 1,890
BB shows a flush, Ace high
4♦ Q♦
SB shows a pair of Eights
6♦ 4♠

BB wins 1,890 (net +840)

SB lost 840

when you say you are running 9.6% ROI. you are talking about the STT Turbos right? thats pretty sick over 1k games if it is. nice work.

i like your idea of sticking to the 36s for a while i can imagine every limit jump from there being quite a change in skill level. will take some time to adjust.

also your graphs would be more relevant in BIs as opposed to $ imo.

ps. still waiting on skype details sir :)

I wish I was running at 9.6% over 1K games! 9.6% is only over the last couple of days which was disapointing considering I was ITM 46%. I'm running at 3.7% over 735 games at this limit which I'd like to bump up 2-3%.

Phew; thanks for clarifying as I was looking at the graph, doing some mental arithmetic, scratching my head and wondering where the he*l I was going wrong...

Another quick update. Thanks to another nice session and rakeback the other night I have managed to break the $5K bankroll barrier again. Next goal is to get to $10K. :)

Not sure mate, I use HEM. I'm not sure if PT3 can do EV graphs but try looking in the software section.

Yeah it would be interesting to see how your EV line is in ST SnGs. I wouldn't be surprised if it is lower than expected, there are a lot of situations where you get you're money in for a coinflip which is fine but it won't look too pretty. I'm still not completely sure how it works and whether it is reliable. Also, with STs there will be opportunites where winning a coinflip will result in future opportunities to control the table that can't be accounted for using ICM. Either way I'm interested to see what the results are.

Me as well, Nice blog BTW gun....

I played a pile of the STs and the EV line was bad as well as the results.

When I play normal turbos my EV line is high, always.

So I will be watching to see what it looks like.

Ok, where to begin... I f#%*^g hate all you useless unknown c^$*#s on full tilt. Why am I not beating you!!! The amount of shit players that seem to hit their miraculous outs every time in the last week is insane. It seems every time I hit TP or a set or something decent I build a decent pot then the river completes a flush draw, here we go again. Well done buddy you called down 3/4 - pot size bets with a 7 high FD. Of course thats not the only problem I'm faced with... On the bubble, everyone seems rediculously tight, even folding to the SS pushes with the correct odds until I try to steal blinds when they decide to pop and call with any random shit! I'm still usually a slight favourite but it is -EV to see a showdown when there is a SS about to bust. It's like there are shitloads of drunk american morons out there just to get me. I know other peoples bad play should make me money in the end but it doesnt seem to be working. In the last 10 days I have managed to move back down to the $4K mark including rakeback, yay. After almost 1K games I'm running at 0.5% ROI, with an EV ROI of 1.4%, yay. $1.58/hr I was making $25/hr on the $24s!!!!! This sucks, don't bother saying take a break, I did that already and it didn't do shit. Just made me more pissed off when I came back and continued to lose.

*End Rant*

PS. This is some of the shit that I deal with...

Hi GunFlavoured,

I don't suppose it will help that much to reiterate that the only reason we can make any money at all at poker is because there are players out there who are willing to call a 3bet with AQ and then go broke on the flop with only their overcard outs.

Without such players we'd all be losing players ourselves, victims of the rake.

What is annoying is not that this player went broke on this board, but that he hit one of his 3 outs. He'll do that around 12% of the time. The other 88%, you're making money. I know you know this already - stay focused - the winnings will come. To prove it, look at your $4k BR and remind yourself that you already won that from bad players.

Those bad beats don't bother me too much, unless its towards the end of an already bad session. What pisses me off is when they decide to make bad calls on the bubble, for example if I push a low pocket pair and they call with 78o or some crap like that. Since they are unknown all I can only go by the last few hands and limited stats so it seems like a +EV push but since they have nfi whats going on it probably isn't. I think the main issue I have is estimating the hand ranges of my opponents, I honestly can't do it. It's not only in bubble situations, it happens at lower blind levels, I see unknowns limp calling from EP with rubbish like Q6o. Then I end up changing my own game to exploit the unknowns and end up getting trapped by some other unkown. How do you play against a range when you find players that play any random cards? This is what I hated about low limit SnGs, why have they appeared in this limit again? I actually prefer playing on the tables full of regs! Anyway, enough whinging, I think I need to somehow adjust my strategies depending on the time of day and the composition of the table, obviously it is not working well at the moment.

it sux when u loose like that but u have to be positive and be happy that there are so bad players outhere to make so bad moves.you probably have played much more sngs than me so u know better how variance works, also u probably know better how to calm yourself and i am sure u know all the common solutions we the rest can suggest like take a break or review your game.just have patient and everything will roll again to your side eventually
