Whatever move I make, I lose. Extremely depressing. Yes, I took time off from poker. Yes, my mood is good when I sit down. yes, I read and re-read the articles. But I just keep losing. Almost every hand. Yes I know it's just variance. Everything is just variance. But how can I spot time after time that my overpair is beaten by a flopped set? How can I know that someone just called with AA pre-floped and traps my QQ? How? Just tell me how? Please keep the "[x] variance" one-liners to yourself. I can't bear it. I have no talent, I cannot play poker, I am bad and I keep getting worse. Don't call it a downswing. It has an extremely detrimental effect on my self-confidence and self-esteem.
I sit down confidently to play but if after the first 100 hands I am always down 20-30BB in every session for months I simply don't know how I'm supposed to look forward to playing again or cheer up or find courage or find anything meaningful in this game.
Just make fun of me, so that it'll be easier to self-destruct.
Perhaps this will be my last post.
♠_cry: damn
take a break, week or so, or change game, try new type (omaha, studd...)
read my signature...
take care
Well let me tell u.... from experience i lost and lost and lost with a thousand traps ..... until i found the game that suit for me perfect...... SNg was perfect for me....cash table...disaster.....tournaments some time win some time loose but SNG best... I recommend that play those larger than 11+ $..... lower stack than is chaos...
Dont worry had so many bad experience with kk losing vs aa or with QQ losing vs JJ cause flush or other stupid bad beats.....it happens.....but u only notice when u loose never when u win with a close tied hand
i will follow with interest your attempts (if you do any) to quit poker. Good luck and please don't forget to post your progress regularly
grab the last 100 hands from whatever poker tracker you use, zip it, and ask a kind soul on this forum to check it for mistakes.
if ur playing SnG's, SnG wizard is defs worth looking at too.
the fold button is also an important part of poker ![]()
but yeah i rarely fold queens no matter the circumstances.
the reason i asked for the hands is so we can determine if it really is bad luck or some leaks. if its leaks, u can fix that. if its bad luck , you can't :(.
Poker is not for everyone, quit if you can, no point in playing something that causes only frustration unless you are masochist.
I strongly recommend the use of tracking software. This way you can keep a track of the number of hands played. It is important not to freak out about your results until you have a good sample size of hands under your belt. We are talking 5k+ hands /at the very least/. If you are playing +EV you are likely to play through variance to some extent with a sample around this size. Of course, depending on your playing style 50k+ hands break-even swings have been reported as well as downswings over 10 buyins.
The truth is, you may never win another hand. There are risks, that's poker. However, you are /likely/ to run around your expected value; that is statistics. The larger your sample size of hands the closer you can expect to find yourself to your expected value.
Also, remember in situations where you get all-in with the best of it and lose, you should be happy. It's those situations which you are unsure of that require deep analysis. It may sound masochistic to be pleased with yourself when your Aces get cracked by 39o for the umpteenth time, but you /should/ be. The stats and maths will look after you in the long run, just keep working hard at your game. This includes reading books/articles and perhaps watching training videos. No-one is at a level where their game cannot be improved; learning to play is a life long occupation. Don't fret, stick with it.
Oh, and one last thing. Remember, it's a game. If you are not winning; play because you are having fun. No other reason should be required ![]()

2 choices:
1) Quit
2) Keep playing an stop caring about results.
I know you dont want people going on about varriance so i'lll just make it short and sweet. If your playing S&G's varriance IS BRUTAL! Possible to have 600-1000 game breakeven stretches.
I'm going to guess you 4 table max? and maybe play 16 a day? If thats the case you could be breakeven for like 2months. Either try and get your head around this or if you do keep playing you would probably be better off learning to play FR cash games.
GL whatever you chosse though.
how can I quit when i keep getting gifted hands like this lol

I've said the same thing in my blog about 10 times. But i really believe i can make some nice money in poker. So i just keep going, keep studying. Keep posting hands on the hand evaluation forum, and keep trying to improve.
When you played a hand badly or are unsure what you should have done, post it in the hand evaluation forum.. It really helps alot.
