[Closed] Wtf Is Poker Software

Sorry If I'm being incredibly obtuse here, but I am relatively new to poker, online or otherwise. I first started playing a couple of months ago and I love the game... I'm having a lot of fun.

I had played a game or two of live poker before and frankly I didn't like it all because from my own personal experience :
People are idiots and don't know which hands beats which.
People want to play for like 1-2 hours then suddenly claim it's "boring" and want to stop.

So I came to online poker and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

Then I find out that some people are using assistant programs to give them an unfair edge over other people....

Software which records every move people make, from what positions, etc etc
giving you massive amounts of data on a player which you are quite honestly not entitled to.

Somebody please explain to me why the hell these programs are allowed.

I honestly feel sick to my stomach knowing that these programs are not only allowed, but clearly encouraged and promoted.. this sub section dedicated to the discussion of poker software only futher proves my point.

Again, sorry if this is stupid queston, but I am seriously dismayed/discouraged from online poker knowing this is going on.
It wouldn't be tolerated in a casino, why here? ?(

All the data they collect isn't hidden. You can see it, so you could actualy write down every move an opponent makes and get the same results as a HUD.. it would take longer but it's possible.

But imo, a HUD is overrated.. Notes > HUD tbh. It can give you a small advantage but it really isn't necessary in micro stakes imo.

Poker rooms want players to multitable so they pay more rake. Without poker software players can't multitable in a big way so they pay less rake and this is loss for poker rooms. So it will never be forbidden to use those programs.

In my opinion it's just a part of online poker which helps you to build your bankroll faster.

I thought you can download information about a player you haven't played with before, and that is can also automatically gather statistics on every single player on the table at once?
Also can't you see the exact cards people played with, what flop/turn/river they folded to, when they bet, how much they bet etc etc etc

click on the strategy tab/ poker tools/ download elephant and see for your self. no you cannot see your opps hands.

If you're against such programs you could just play poker on a site that doesn't allow them (Cake).

The data available to you is only the data that has been generated against the players you are playing against by you. i.e 3rd parties cannot gather data for you.

Poker rooms do not allow programs that allow you to import data gathered by other players for your use.

I guarantee one of the following exists:

  • Santa Claus
  • Easter Bunny
  • Poker Table Ratings

You can see the hands that went to showdown and were mucked. which to be honest, hasn't helped me a single time yet.. You can do the same thing if you go to your handhistories..

Well im only using HM to see mucked hands easier instead of going to hand replayers. But yeah stats can help you when multitabling cash games but in SnGs they are pretty much useless.

All they do is store and display the information you already have 'seen'.

You are allowed to sit in a casino and play while you have your notebook out - I've seen this done at the world series! Even someone like Gus Hansen has been known to take notes with a dictaphone!

How is an edge unfair which everyone has access too?

How is it possible to have a HUD in a casino?

How does that not help you?

HUD helps you mostly to find the fish, when you check the vpips on 16 tables, and you see someone's green with 80+ vpip, you instantly focus on that table, and start playing any 2 cards, just to beat the passive fish who pays everything..and yes, you will beat him if he's unable to adapt. also with hud you can avoid going broke with jj qq against someone who has vpip of 5. but basically, if you play 1 table, the hud becomes useless, coz you see every hand in detail, if you cant remember what was 20hands ago, well, ur memory needs to be improved only.

Could you please elabotrate on this ? The higher the vpip the looser the player is....However, I do not agree that you should play with almost any hand to suck him out...
