wow i'm not having a good time. I can't win with a good hand. I can't bluff people because I pick the wrong spots. I get into terrible situations deep stacked, KK always gets a bad flop after someone calling a 4bet (and yes they have AK)

I haven't posted anything for a while. Mainly because I got a *real* job. I'm now working at a consulting firm, getting paid a salary that I use to boost my bankroll, ha..

Anyway so I can't play too much, 15 days a month for around 2 hours each time..

And I'm playing only NL200 now thanks to some advice from TwiceT - I was playing NL200 and Nl100 tables but I was getting killed in NL100 tables because I was pulling moves that would only work on NL200.. So stick to NL200.

Today though I did something reeeeeeeally stupid.

I took a shot at NL2000!!!!!!!!

Maybe I was confused with the extra 0, but I did it anyway and I played 12 hands and made 20 bbs.. ♠_biggrin: than I ran away.. it was such a rush having such a big chunk of my bankroll at risk..

Haha, it wasn't really a shot, it was more of a feel. I wanted to see what it was like. And it's scary, especially when you're way out of comfort zone with your hard-earned bankroll. (@fun101 .. it's not big enough )

Actually my first hand that i raised was on the button was 89s
(diamonds), and this aggressive full tilt pro (the same guy from the hand above) calls in SB, the flop comes 7TJr (1 diamond), and I got so scared my palms were sweating, because I thought for sure this guy was going to have a set of sevens or QK, and he would take me all in and hit his outs... I made the contibet anyway (just over half pot) and he folded, and I was sooooo relieved. hahahahahahah

anyway looking back of course I would have risked that blow to my bankroll on that flop, and I kinda wish the guy had tried to push me off, but wow I need to work on my bankroll first.. I haven't played out of the comfort zone of bankroll management since the initial $50... long time ago. haha. (as you can see I'm still laughing from nervousness)

btw I love that a contibet on nl2k is the same size as a stack on nl200

WORLD CUP!!!!

Atmosphere is awesome here in johannesburg. Flags everywhere. Vuvuzelas from 5 in the morning blowing in the distance (okay that's a bit irritating).. South Africa to play Uruguay in an hour.. (bit scared about that). Argentina had a great first game. It's all awesome awesome awesome! Next week going to some games in cape town too and off work for a week. Can't wait..

Only problem is I had my worst session EVER!!!!! lost 10 stacks. It was absolutely miserable, and I just kept getting looser and looser, until I just had to stop and cut my losses. blah..

Taking a break and hoping it will not affect me too much psychologically. Actually that's what makes me feel a bit better: I don't feel like I need to drown myself or something (you know that mad low feeling when you've lost way more than you want, basically your whole months hard work). 5 months ago I'm sure I would be so low right now. But I'm not. I'm fine with that. I know it's all part of it and will happen. So although it's not a good feeling, I know it's only temporary (good attitude right? I think so)

shots happen, no need to worry

Today I woke up thinking about NL400, so I went and played.

Note that I have never played NL400 before, so it was a bit nervewracking. And I had my heartbeat up to mid 100s in some spots (of course not as much as for my NL2k shots - see previous postings)

I started out with two Nl200 tables and 1 NL400. And it was a super aggressive table. I had position on this guy and put in 3bets, called him in position, reraised him on the flop, called him down, but he just kept outplaying me. It was unbelievable. I wasn't sure if it was him or a lot to do with not getting premium hands (and premium flops for those hands) against him. Anyway it made me extra nervous.

However I think I kept my nerve well and just kept going, kept playing my game. I put in some really nice bluffs, some good 3betting action, etc

(I also put in a couple bluffs that I thought were really nice, but got called down by that same guy with second pair even with straight completing cards - I think I've got a lot to learn and work on in terms of bluffing)

However I was still down two stacks, and then decided to add two more NL400 tables and close NL200.

Then things started going really well, and at one stage I had 3.5 stacks at one table, double stacks at the other two. So I came away with 2 stacks (ignore the maths, there were other tables in the mix)...

What have I learned?

Bluffing is good when there's lots of money involved, and when good (bad) cards come, works really well in NL400

NL400 has a similar feel to NL200 except sometimes there is a lot more aggression post flop. I wonder if this is true, because it really seemed like there were far fewer 4bets, but more calling of 3bets and lots more post flop play..?

And then this hand I enjoyed. Not betting the flop didn't make sense if he had something. Betting the river with a king didn't make sense because he'd be worried about an Ace. Betting the river with a bad ace didn't make sense because he'd rather check/call, or put a bet on the flop - since there was a flush draw... Anyway it seemed to me that there were more busted draws than hands, and it was reasonable odds.

I played some NL200 this morning and I played well, but unfortunately my great reads got diluted by the cards on the table.. for example I called this aggressive guy/girl's 5bet push because it was more likely a bluff than anything else. turned out to be 96 of diamonds and I had AJ of diamonds. But then there was a 6 on the turn or something..

It's nice how I don't care. The other night I had to really give my brother's friend a lecture, because he's been playing big live and online games without a bankroll. He's made big cashes in the past (like 15k dollars amounts and has probably made about 150k in the last year), but he wastes his money completely. And I've seen it.

They go out to clubs and buy bottles of the best alcohol. Of course a bunch of leeches hang around to get a taste of the winning feeling, and there are girls too.. but in the end what do you have? A bunch of people who'll leave you as soon the pocket starts getting lighter..

So he's wasted all his winnings and now he and his housemates are living day to day playing above their bankrolls, hoping for the next cash.

And yes it might happen, but it also may not. We've all read the psychology articles, we all understand the bankroll management principle, but they haven't

So I gave him this long lecture about what an idiot he's being and how you need the psychological safety of a bankroll so that you can lose money and not feel it and have it affect your game and your life...

and he kept saying "yes I understand that, but..." and giving me a bad beat story. Which I obviously don't care about having seen thousands of bad beats... which is what you'll see when you've played hundreds of thousands of hands..

I hope he understands eventually, before it's too late.

I played some more MTTs and I made two final tables this morning (while playing the NL200 tables), which brought back my confidence, even though they weren't big games.

One was actually a superturbo $24 mtt, which was a lot of fun, but in the end I got AJ against TT and you know how it goes, came 8th.

The other was a $12 90man KO turbo, which I won, giving me lots of confidence because I got a chance to try out some new tricks, and I knocked out 6 of the last 8 people, which is quite chilled. The last two hands I had somthing like 230000 chips and the other guys had 24000 and 16000..

I watched the Folding Wars video by Pzhon, which was actually really good and it made me remember a lot of things about MTTs even though its an SNG vid, and about risk averseness (on the bubble, big stacks vs big stacks, short stacks vs big stacks, short stacks vs short stacks), so in the following spot it was just so obvious and I'm glad that I had a chance to do it:

today I mixed things up a bit and played about 10 $22 sngs (at once - I still have some sng muscle memory or should I say mousel memory). Is it my imagination or are they super easy? There seem to be so many bad players. Of course I got my money in super good and lost quite a few times (brings back memories of those early days when I played $5 sngs and had such bad luck), but I came 1st and 2nd and busted in the rest.

I must check around to see who plays these sngs and what they think about it. Or maybe it's just a sunday thing.

Which is probably a good way to mix things up.. Mon - Fri NL200, Saturdays MTT, Sundays SnG? Or whatever, just figure out which days are best for what and schedule accordingly..

Now I've taken a little detour to Rush NL..
Yesterday played just Rush. Some FR and 6max (1 table of each)
I got a bit lucky, but it was reasonably easy, came away with a stack and a half profit.

Today I played 1 rush NL200 6max (and 4 regular NL200 - 6max of course) and it was fantastic because along the way I identified super donkeys and by the end I was milking them (donkey milk, yumm?)

In the regular tables I played really well too, unfortunately I got it all in against a 40bb and a 115bb when I had TT on a KKTss board. The short stack had K3o and the big stack had A3s. Turn was a 3. I basically won only 35bb instead of 150.

Then I had a couple of hands where I 3 barreled only to find they had rivered 2 pairs.

I also called down with bluffcatchers a few times to find out there were no bluffs going on - really irked me..

However, in the end my overall yield was +3stacks. Which I'll take any day of the week!
