Anyone playing the FR turbo SNGs on FT want to sweat tonight? I'm available 9pm-12pm UK time = 8pm-11pm GMT.

I don't get the impression that there was a stampede to join me at Dusk Till Dawn next week, but just in case, I've realized that Spurs are playing Inter next Wednesday, so obviously I won't be going to DTD. :f_mad:

Well, Boris did indeed coach me last night and was very helpful. I like his style.

Normal Coach
-----------------
Me: I think this is a fold. There are better spots.
Coach: Perhaps, but the blinds are about to hit you and you lose a lot of fold equity. You might consider pushing here.

Boris
------
Me: I think this is a fold. There are better spots.
Boris: Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I think I'm too tight with 10ishBB. Thanks Basic Boris!

I've also decided that I'm probably not really much good at poker. This isn't a sad, self-serving request for lots of posts saying 'Oh yes you are.'. I was talking to goldchess, and we agreed that as you get better at something, you start to realize how bad you are (i.e. how far you have to go to be anything like as good as the best). He was thinking about chess, I was thinking about maths. I actually still think I'm quite good at chess, which shows how bad I am! I think my poker has improved to the point where I can see the vast gulf between my thought processes and those of the best players. This isn't a whinge from me. Poker is a pastime that I enjoy, and I will continue to try to improve. I think a lot of people would enjoy the game a lot more if they stopped thinking of it as a way to earn money and started enjoying it as a game, which, as a side benefit, makes you money if you can become skillful enough at it.

I think that's enough philosophising for now! :f_cool:

This is exactly the type of attitude I am try to adapt, so I couldn't agree more! The money available at the micro/low stakes would not be enough to change my way of life, so for now I'm just enjoying the game and trying to improve. I'll start thinking about the money if/when I can start making a significant amount.

Think I have a long way to go, I've also arrived at the at the stage where I have realised just how bad/lucky I have been up to now! I'm just fortunate there are players worse than me! :f_biggrin:

I've been playing a few $6.50 turbos, and I go up then down, then up then down. I've tried to incorporate Ged and Boris's suggestions about playing a bit looser with <15BB into my game, but that part of my brain seems to be linked to the part of my brain that plays with >30BB, so that loose with <15BB inevitably leads to spazzy and spewy with >30BB. I used to think that poker was mainly a game of skill, but I'm starting to think that most of it is self-management and self-control. It's (almost) enough to make me read The Poker Mindset. Almost.

For those of you playing the $1.20 and $2.25 turbos on FT, here's an example of the sort of high quality play you can expect when you move up to the $6.50s. Note this is the first hand. Poker is so confusing.

Full Tilt - $6+$0.50|15/30 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

SB: 1,500.00
BB: 1,500.00
UTG: 1,500.00
UTG+1: 1,500.00
MP: 1,500.00
MP+1: 1,500.00
Hero (LP): 1,500.00
CO: 1,500.00
BTN: 1,500.00

SB posts SB 15.00, BB posts BB 30.00

Pre Flop: (45.00) Hero has J♦ J♥

fold, fold, MP raises to 1,500.00 and is all-in, fold, fold, fold, BTN calls 1,500.00 and is all-in, fold, fold

Flop: (3045.00, 2 players) 8♥ Q♣ 2♦

Turn: (3045.00, 2 players) A♠

River: (3045.00, 2 players) K♥

MP shows 5♥ 5♠ (One Pair, Fives)
BTN shows 6♣ 6♦ (One Pair, Sixes)
BTN wins 3,045.00

And finally, I feel like getting in touch with my inner girlie this morning.

Kate and I used to be very close in the 80's. I think she's let herself go a bit, but, to be honest, so have I.

Just have to say that I'm hopping from foot to foot with excitement at the prospect of Spurs v Inter tonight. And it's actually on the telly so I won't have to squint at my laptop to see it. Sadly, my prediction is 2-0 to Inter, but if Spurs could squeak a draw I'd be chuffed.

i) 2-1 to who (yes I know it should be 'to whom', but then I sound like Shakespeare or Jeremy Paxman).
ii) Is that psychic as in 'I just knew he had aces, so I had to fold'?

Well, after the first half I was so pissed off that I decided to do something that I said I wouldn't do. Yes. That's right. I started reading The Poker Mindset. And fuck me, it really did the trick on the football. The way I see it, Spurs won 3-0 with ten men in the second half! It should be called The Football Supporting Mindset. Maybe I should send a copy to Gareth Bale. Come on you Spurs! I reckon Inter are toast when they come to White Hart Lane in two weeks time!
