Yeah it's good to raise a little less. 3/4 pot or even a little more is probably fine, but most likely he was just trying to float on the flop or had a medium strength hand and would fold to any bet size on the turn

you can try to go c/r to the turn and the shoving any river.
If he has there draw I think he would bet quite often and also he would very likely bet his Qx, Jx hands. He might not call you down with Jx, but if you check and bet river, he may easily call with just one pair hands and it is good to balance times if you´re going to c/f turn
As played: I´d personally bet 1$, since I think 1.5$ is a little big and you don´t really want that hands like AT/AJ would fold to your turn bet.

yes, but you can mix it up by betting 1$ or c/r to 2.5x his bet size if he best around half pot size.

flushdraw is only very few part of the hands that he might have there and usually players tend to bet with their draws, since usually they don´t have showdown value and they want to take pot right now
You need to protect your hand on the turn but at the same time you need to get value hands that has close to 0 equity against your nuts, so I think sometimes you can mix it up by c/r turn

I would like to add only that against unknown it's better to Bet your own since I see a lot more value by betting ourself into that, since he still may Check behind any kind of draw from what we could still get value. But I would likely Bet a bit smaller, ~$1,20.
