I am OOP and check back to call, expecting villain to cbet almost 100% on ace high flop.

TURN [A  3 :spade: J :diamond:] [8 ] Pot = 400

AndyUK18: bets 240
Feynman4: calls 240

I bet out here for value as i am fairly confident i have the best hand seeing as he checked back the flop. His range could be any two royal cards, maybe some strong jacks, and underpairs.

RIVER [A  3 :spade: J :diamond: 8 ] [Q ] Pot = 980

AndyUK18: bets 480
Feynman4: raises 3635 to 4115 and is all-in
AndyUK18: folds

The Q is a good card for me as the only hand in his turn range that hits is JQ and KT. It also hits a lot of his Qx range. I raise here hoping to get called by QK, JT, and underpairs. When he overshoves i am definitely not convinced. He is basically representing a rivered flush or a set so I tank for a while before folding. I still have a 70BB stack.

Uncalled bet (3635) returned to Feynman4

Feynman4 collected 1840 from pot

Looking back at the hand, my river bet sizing seems small and exploitable and that may be why he shoved as a bluff sensing weakness. Seeing as i am far from strong enough to call off to a reraise should i be happy with checking to call/ for showdown, fairly confident of having the best hand? Should i be betting bigger to avoid bluff reraisers?

Is my line and reasoning OK here? Thanks.

Hello Andyuk18,

Nah, I don't think like he is ever shipping the river with worse hand and I even like the bet keeping like 1/2 on river. Nice hand! He could as well have the flush there.

Best regards.

I would rather fold preflop. Don't like calling loose OOP, especially in the SB where your odds aren't that good.

Flop + Turn are fine. River, the Q♥ is actually one of the worst possible cards for you. There are many hands who improve here: flushdraws, KT, T9, QJ.
And if he had like KJ, JT, he probably won't call a bet because the board is so scary.
So even your river valuebet is close. But I think on this buyin it`s ok. On higher buyins or vs. good opponents I would just check/fold the river.

When he shoves, this is a really easy fold. You only beat a bluff here, and without special reads, such big overshoves on the river are at least 90% for value.
