Hi,

Here we have a preflop raise from CO and i made a standard 3bet with A9o, afterwhich the pot gets capped.

On flop i hit TP low kicker i guess since CO capped preflop which puts him on TT/JJ+, AK, maybe AQs range. From my POV raise on flop was out of question since i would just isolate myself against better hands and maybe get TT/JJ to fold, so my plan was to CD.

Turn card gives me an OESD aside from TP and river card completes my straight, QJ is not in range of my opponent so this gives me nuts. Now the question is should i have c/r the river or my donk bet was ok? Which hand would bet the river if i checked?

Hi!

Since no stats/reads given I assume he is unknown therefore his preflop capping range is generally strong but may from time to time include spews. The way you played your hand is totally fine and if this really is the first hand against your oponent I wouldnt really mind taking this line.

First lets discuss river since it should pretty much always be a donk. You dont know your oponent and once board gets so drawheavy you can expect him to checkback a huge portion of the time. On the other he will not fold Ax+ once you donk since he also doesnt know you and pot is big.

Only question is flop play.There are 2 valid lines...

1)your line... simply calldown...thinking his range consists of Ax which are better and good pockets which you dont want him to fold. Also if he just has a spew you let him 3barrel bluff you with terrible equity.And also you avoid though decitions. Biggest problem is that you loose value against worse hands and there are many and are more likely than AK,AQ(especially since you block these combos with your A :club:)...also equity wise you are favourite for sure

2) c/r flop and vbet all the way... this gains most value and not allow him to play perfectly against you with worse hands. Bad thing is that you allow him to fold worse hands(some may even fold pockets and its hard to exploit this since you are not really going to bluffraise here almost ever) and that you are put into though spot when he reraises you at any point

so my conclution is like this...

I preffer calldown if:-your oponent is unknown
-is capable of spews but is generally decent player

raise flop: -straightforward SDbound oponent whom you dont need to SD if he raises
-maniac or person capable who is quite likely to spew
