yeah you might just change the angle of your body (rather than parallel to the floor). like maybe put your hands on the counter and do a few that way or something... but keep in mind its a longer way down 
Sustainable repetition is better than just a few reps when its not sustainable. This can make it really hard to create any kind of routine or habit out of your work. It also isn't very rewarding.
Sure you might gray the line between what is or isn't a pushup, but shaping your behavior towards doing pushups can be a goal as well.
