Hey guys, what up?
This is a decision/post I didn't think i'd ever make, but after a lot of deliberation ive decided im gonna take a break from the pokers.
Since going back to uni after the new year, it's dawned on me just how much uni work ive gotta do in the next ~3 months. In the past i've always been the guy at school, college, and my first year at uni that would get by with well above average marks without putting hardly any effort in. This has to change now. If I want that first next year I have to put the work in now.
My focus at the moment is very much split between uni and poker. As a result, neither are getting the attention they need in order to succeed at the level I want. I've spent the last couple of weeks since going back to uni procrastinating and using poker as an excuse to put off my uni work, all the while feeling guilty about the fact I should be cracking out an assignment rather than playing SnG's. Because of this, both are suffering.
You know, im only playing the daft $3.50-$7 level. Since the turn of the year, I have invested ~30 hours of time playing, and my ROI is a measly 0.5% (fair bit below EV but still). What's the point? In order for me to move up the limits I need to be able to spend hours a day not only grinding, but studying and reviewing games which I haven't done either of in weeks. If I was playing midstakes and making some decent money there's no way i'd take a break, but the reality is im not and I need to get my priorities in order.
But this is far from the end, believe me! I fucking love this game and in a couple of months time I will have all my assignments finished and ill be back to dedicate myself to this beautiful game (maybe until I start my final year at uni, but that's still like ~6 months. Plenty of time to crush midstakes!). As far as I know I only have 2 exams in April this year, both on the same subject (Integrated Marketing Communications for anyone that's interested), so they won't take a whole lot of revision.
When I return, im pretty sure ill be back playing NL though. Hopefully by then, Full Tilt will have returned and ill have a cushty ~$1k roll to play with, assuming I leave my Stars roll in tact to add to my ~$500 locked up on Tilt. Either way, Stars are likely to have introduced their 'fast pace ring game', so assuming that's introduced or Rush is back, that's what im likely to come back to playing.
In the meantime, I'll definitely still be around on here and on Skype so you're not getting rid of me completely. ♦ Will probably also still have the odd MTT night when ive got the next day off or something, there's no way I can stop playing this game completely for months.
Probably looking at around March-early April when ive finally got all assignments/presentations/etc out the way, so that's probably around the time ill be back on the tables.
Look at me all responsible, gotta make it last though.
Take it easy, and someone is more than welcome to borrow my run good while im not using it. ♦
