I promise you, it isn't a scam.

They aren't trying to get your bank info, or your actual information for any reason other than checks (and they don't want your bank information anyway. If you're talking about a statement, then that's understandable for identity). They need ID checks is to prevent people abusing the system, and to check you're over the legal.

It's exactly the same for all poker rooms.

If you really don't believe me, look at all the posts on the forum where people say about scams, and then how many random community members say it isn't.

also, look here http://www.pokerstrategy.com/businessmodel/ it will explain to you why it isn't a scam.

If that doesn't convince you it isn't... then u have no hope sir/madam

edit: also saw the email you posted. ahahah. you think that is from here?

Hello It is with profound respect and humble submission, I beg to state the following few lines for your kind consideration. I hope you will spare some of your valuable minutes to read the following appeal with sympathetic mind. I must confess that it is with great hope, joy and enthusiasm to write you this mail and I believe by the faith that it must surely find you in good condition of health. My names are Beda Ibrahim Hassan Addou, Somalian Citizen, female, age 22 years old. I`m the daughter of Late professor Ibrahim Hassan Addou, the former head of foreign affairs department for the Islamic Courts of Somalia. My father was killed on December 3, 2009,in an explosion during a graduation ceremony at the Shamo Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia. I lost my mother long time ago, when I was just 6 years old and since then, my father loved me so dearly at my tender age may he rest in peace and may the great God give him a safe entry in Paradise. Amen. Before the death of my father, he told me that he made a fixed deposit of the sum of Six Million, Three Hundred thousand United States Dollars(6.3Million USD) in one of the Banks in Burkina Faso with my name as his next of kin. I have travelled to Burkina Faso to clear the money but the Bank manager told me that my refugee status is not authorised by the laws of Burkina Faso to clear the money. He advised me to appoint a trustee. Now, I am Soliciting your help for transfer of the money into your bank account and investment assistance in your Country. I have suffered lots of set back as a result of my parents death. I left Somalia because of incessant family feuds. Presently, I am living in Ouagadougou,Burkina Faso. Hence, I want to settle abroad to continue my studies and spend the rest of my life. Please consider my request as my life is being hugely affected . Thanks a lot in anticipation of your prompt response. Yours sincerely, Beda Ibrahim Hassan Addou.

great now you think that i'm an idiot that will send to you my bank account so you can suck my money out..
i know you will say but that's not our adress lol i know how to scam people because i readed about it so i wont get scammed but i did because of this stupid site ..

till today i didn't get 1 scam email!!! so don't tell me this isn't scam ..

A little more respect for Beda Ibrahim Hassan Addou please, she lost her father in an explosion :(

Hey guys,

Here at PokerStrategy.com all us mods and the admin put in a lot of hard work to make all our members as happy as possible. If you click This Link You can read our business model which explains how we can afford to give the starting capital to our new members and why we want you all to pass the ID check so you can play. We don't however want people creating multiple accounts and claiming more than one starting capital because this is unfair and against our terms and conditions.

We dont want to stop you speaking your mind but when people start calling the site a scam it really undermines all the hard work we all put in around the clock here,

Thanks for understanding guys,
Carl

Hello

I haven't read all the posts on this thread, but I've read enough of them to know the general idea of the feelings of people.

I passed the quiz the other day, but to be fair I'm not sure I can be bothered with scanning documents into my computer again and then sending them off, too much trouble and hoops and hurdles to jump through/over.

However, is this $50 a scam?

Well, I started trading on Betfair a few years ago and they gave me nothing to start with, it was my own money I lost, and lost, and lost. Luckily I was learning all the time and then I began to win, and win, and win.

Now I trade full time and make myself a living from it :-)

If you think that $50 is going to be a big enough starting bankroll to see you through all the ups and downs of poker, if its anything like sports trading, then think again.

It would be great to get $50 free, who would pass that offer up if a guy came up to you in the street and offered you it, but it ain't gonna make or break your poker career.

See the big picture, otherwise forget playing poker, its just gonna cost you allot more than any $50.

Steve

This^^
We have many memebers at PokerStrategy.com that have turned their $50 starting capital into many thousands of $$ without ever depositing themselves. Its so much more than $50 i keep writing this in threads but its because im passionate about this site and what it offers :f_biggrin:

indeed..one of the best examples I can think of right now (from the German community) is this guy:

Hasufly

started with $50 and has turned it into a lot, lot more. With patience, discipline and hard work, you can do it too.

A while ago we had an interview with Hasu, which you can read here:

Interview with Hasufly Part One

Interview with Hasufly Part Two

Just because it's hard, doesn't mean you can't do it too!

edit:

@Jim4rdo: oh yeah, there's also this TwiceT guy.....I hear he's pretty famous! _love: _love:

just to make it crystal clear...

the email you received after you posted is complete co-incidence. It's called a 419 scam, named after the section of the Nigerian Penal Code which outlaws this kind of scam.

You can read more about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_fraud

basically, it's a pretty common industry and everyone who has ever had an email address has received one of these mails at one time or the other.

The fact that you got one just after signing up to PokerStrategy.com, however, is a complete coincidence.

I don't know what you guys think but maybe it's time to stop going off-topic and maybe even move the thread away from "Introduce yourself!"?
