Hello,
I just wanted to know if this formula for implied odd is valid?

[(1/EQ) * C] - (P + C)

Where:
EQ = your hand's equity
C = how much you have to call right this moment
P = size of the pot after your opponent has betted

Yes that is correct. It tells you what you need to win (or afford to lose) on next streets for the call to be profitable.

Hi kingsoloGOH,
That looks correct.
Note that this formula gives you the amount you need to win for your play to be profitable in the long run.

For example, let's say you have a hand with 25% equity -- so you have direct odds of 3:1 against.
Assume that there is 10BB in the pot
Villain makes a 1/2 pot bet
You must put in 5BB to win 15BB so you have exactly the correct odds to call

However let's say he puts in 10BB -- you need to put in 10 to win 20, so the direct odds are against you.
Now apply the formula:
[(1/.25) * 10] - (20 + 10) = amount you need to win
40 - 30 = 10

So if villain doesn't have 10 BB left in his stack, there is not enough left in his stack to make this call profitable long term.

Note that this all assumes that you have calculated your equity correctly, which means you have to estimate his range correctly.

Hey Vorpal, solid post :f_thumbsup:

There's just one thing to point out. You accidentally placed a wrong number in the equation.

[(1/.25) * 10] - (20 + 10) = amount you need to win
40 - 30 = 10

So you only need to win minimum of 10BB in average when you hit your outs.

This is exactly what I needed. Good Question.

Thanks for the link @VS
