The bible has shown itself to be historically, scientifically and prophetically accurate. Here are some examples of each.....

Historically

The case of the missing Monarch.

According to the bible book of Daniel, the last ruler in Babylon before it fell to the Persian empire was named Belshazzar. Having no secular evidence of this, the charge was made that this man Belshazzar never existed. During the 19th century several small cylinders inscribed in cuneiform were discovered telling of Belshazzar's existence.

Many other biblical stories are supported by archaeological evidence, such as the fall of Israel to the Assyrians, the destruction of Jericho and the conflict of Moab and Israel.

Scientifically

The bible makes no claims to being a scientific textbook, but when it addresses scientific matters it is always accurate.

Job 26:7 "He is stretching out the North over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing" - Written at a time when people thought the earth rested upon the back of four giant elephants on top of a turtle.

Isaiah 40:22 "There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth" The hebrew word rendered circle here (hhug) can also be translated as "sphere". - This was written at a time when the earth was considered flat.

Ecclesiastes 1:7 "All streams run into the sea, yet the sea never overflows; back to the place from which the streams ran they return to run again" - A basic description of the water cycle.

What about evolutionary theory? When you look into the matter it's remarkable how little the fossil record supports Darwin's predictions. There are no transitional links between the different species. Evolutionists will often quote examples of how the "horse" has evolved and certain other creatures, but often upon closer examination it will turn out that these are not transitional fossils but simply a different species in its entirety. Sometimes these "transitional fossils" may even be outright hoaxes.
Why do we have apes and men, but no ape-men? Embarassed, scientists have attempted to modify evolutionary theory by putting it under the new umbrella of "punctuated equilibrium". This is the exact opposite of what the original theory of evolution postulates. What scientists are refusing to acknowledge is that the fossil record is a pretty accurate reflection of the creation account told in the bible book of Genesis.

Prophetically

Daniel vividly sees the march of world powers in a vision, so accurately that scholars argue it must have been written at a later date. Daniel's accurate description of his time in Babylonish exile could not have been written by someone existing 400 years later.
Regardless, the vision stretches even into our times, telling of Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, the British empire and further into the future.

The wicked world we see around us is also foretold.

2tim 3:1-5 "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal,  having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness,  betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God,  having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away."

Matthew 24:7, “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. "
Matthew 24:14 " And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

The four horseman of the apocalypse mentioned in Revelation, often joked about. They were given certain authority over the world. To bring plagues, death, famine, and war.

Why is it when mankind has a natural inclination to live in peace and harmony, millions are spent on weaponry each year while 40,000 children starve to death each day? The bible makes it clear that Satan is the god of this world. (This is a little known biblical fact, and not surprising when you consider 85% of professed christians have never read the bible from cover to cover)

Well, you asked, and there is my answer. I believe the bible to be the inspired word of God. And no, I don't want you to take my word for it. All of us should make our own search, and so long as we can hand on heart say we tried our best to get to the bottom of it, that is what matters. But I recommend to all that you at least /read/ the bible from cover to cover with an open mind. You may be suprised.

seriously, if u honestly tell me in the eyes that u believe "god" created human beings i will think u are the biggest ignorant idiot on this planet. even if there are leaks in the evolution theory i am more inclined to think that aliens created/helped for our creation but not an "almighty god who will save us if we are good beings"

Only mathematics deals with 'proof'. Rational thinking involves balancing lots of different bits of evidence and coming to an informed opinion. There's no evidence for the existence of god, so the rational position is that, unless something happens to suggest otherwise, the balance of probability is that god does not exist. Unless of course you redefine what 'god' means until it basically doesn't mean anything.

Well, if you find an idiot who takes every page of the bible literally, and judge religious people on the basis of that example, you get a pretty negative view on the matter.

I think that's one of the funny things about religion and the bible. It's full of innacurate things. And then people say: "well you shouldn't believe every single word of it" Why not then? Does that mean god lied in the bible then or what? (Assuming god wrote it ofcourse) You'd think in a book written by god that tells you how to live every single word of it is true right?

As you might have guessed i'm an Atheist. I don't believe in a god. I think there's a very likely possibility there's other live on other planets. Are they humans? Probably not. The bible does help many people so i don't have a problem with religious people. I simply can't believe in a god unless there's proof.

By the way... it also depends on if your parents are religious when you grow up and if many people believe in god where you live. It's alot easier for people to become religious then. (That's why some smart people are religious... naw im just kidding ).

Also like it says in "The Poker Mindset", my poker bible. The human mind loves to make connections between things. If you hit your head on your wall and it hurts then your mind makes the connection that hitting your head on the wall hurts. Which doesn't apply to poker ofcourse. But if you pray to god for a very sick/dying person and then that person that was very sick becomes healthy again or something similar happens. Then i think people will then without a doubt believe there is a god cause that "miracle" happened at the exact right time.

Evidence is proof. What you meant to say there was information. The only information in theology is in the form of ideas that sprout from discussion, be they written down in a book some consider holy or discussed in an online forum. And as I already mentioned, the definition of a deity implies that it operates outside of the known laws of logic.

But according to the laws of logic it would be pretty irrational to assume that the biblical god exists as his entire being is based on human properties to such an extent that I use "bible thumper" as an insult.

My parents are religious and I always furiously rejected their beliefs. Spent quite some time openly bashing religion too until I discovered there was more to it than "prove it or gtfo".

I dont see why you cant just go ahead and read the bible though. Ive read parts of it and its still interesting even if you don't believe in anything.

Well I'm an atheist and probably always will be but reading this thread makes me wanna pick up a bible (or the equivalent of another religion) and read it. At the very least it will provide me with more entertainment and stories to make fun of.

Well like I am trying to improve my English I spent a lot of time Reading this article and I will try to answer a lot of people.
First of all, I am Christian, I have been voluntaring in a lot of events of the Catholic Church in Spain, however I dont usually go to the church on Sundays. The reason, better said, the excuse is that I am extremely lazy. But even I am a believe I dont believeR in a god that is going to send me to burning in the hell… It is true that religions have made a lot of bad things along the History, but my question is…were the religión? or some powerful people inside the religión using it to take advantages for their personal situations? (wars, politic, treasures, women….) Religion is a human way of life, and because of that, has human people. And do you know any human asociation which hasnt got any corrupt member in there? (sport teams, politic groups, Banks, goverments, pólice, ONG’S…) Church would be another one and any kind of religión, I am Christian because I belive in the message of Christ, a man who believed in a way of life trying to help always he could, trying to pray giving thanks for what we have ( If a person doesnt believe in anything more than in maths, they shouldnt say words like SHIT! when something bad happens (why  complaining about anything? Everything happens because probabilities doesnt it, everything is random? )

As far as holy bible is full with inaccurate things, the more u dig about religion the funnier it becomes.I dont want to insult people who believe in religion (whatever religion that is ) but it is not coincidence that most of the greatest minds even from the ancient greek times werent believing in a god(s).

I know a lot of people who believe in god and they really have a lucky good life with a lot of less problems that most of the people.
No god or greater power will make your life happier, but a way of living and looking around can make your life, and death, happier.
I dont want to argue but these people were really great minds.

The first bad adjective I read here "stupid". I know all the beings come from a little things called atoms but we dont know yet how to create life more than a extremely simple virus with very few "ingredients" MYCOPLASMA LABORATORIUM (my girlfriend studies Genetics with excelent marks xD)

The question abt purpose of life comes into one's life sooner or later. In my case it was sooner. The more u push the edges overall, the more tired of materialistic/physical world u get. I ve been a total carrierist for the most of my life and interrupted already high school (!) for 3y coz i was unsure of it having any value in life. I ve been taking all religious and creationistic/evolutionary issues very seriously. I dont think i can honestly summarize my conclusions in any other way than: All ppl who are laughing at others abt trying to figure out things and blindly believe in what is nowadays the only proposed way for society (evolution, capitalism, humanism.. united into: WE ARE GODS (some bigger than others tho) theory) are being totally brainwashed and unfortunately sofar didnt found/had an opportunity to probe deeply abt things. That being said, I dont think being in 20s or any other most productive years of your life is a good time to be asking these questions. Frankly, if u re intelligent and esp honest with yourself and the facts u can gather around from all sides its just going to lead into big and bigger mess in your head (and heart).

I have also (i believe many do, most though more or less just subconsiously) postponed my efforts of settling anyhow too concretely on this, although i am still aware (and fear) it is (by far) the most important, perplexing, and totally lifechanging issue there is.
