Since we've passed the equinox, I thought I would check in on our friends in Alert, NU
at 86° N it will soon lose the sun for just over 5 months -- they have until Oct 14 to get that tan.
Mind you, with today's weather, it ain't exactly bathing suit season...

Meanwhile, back at Castle Vorpal, youngest daughter landed a decent job -- she has been on the COVID-19 relief since the pandemic caused her last employer to shut down.

Although I love dark fruit cake with marzipan topping, it is too early to even think of that.
However, Thanksgiving is only a couple of weeks away, so be sure to make a couple batches of butter tarts

Wait -- you don't celebrate Thanksgiving where you are?
Well make up any old excuse for butter tarts!

A dish that if done well and 'spectacular is the' 'Rice bomb' '. It has many variations but the one made in my part, in the Reggiano Apennines.' 'It is the classic example of how even in the mountains, with ingredients simple, you can get delicious dishes.

The one with mushrooms, which is made in my part of Italy, is spectacular. The recipe for the Reggiana rice bomb.

It is not a dessert, it is a first course. The version with mushrooms is typical of my parts. It can also be done with cooked ham only. In some regions you even put fish. 'a restaurant that makes an exceptional rice bomb.
The manager always asks you to give a precise time when you go to eat because he wants to serve it hot no later than half an hour after preparation.

Do you make the cordon bleu yourself?
We tried some prepared one, and they weren't very good.

The same people that make the yucky cordon bleu make a chicken breast stuffed with broccoli that is quite good.

2nd straight day of rain.
We were told we would be getting a cracking great thunderstorm last night, but the storm had other plans apparently

No, I'm not that advanced yet. :f_biggrin: I got some frozen version.

But I discovered this nice squirrel-proof auto-cooking function of my stove, which really yields great results. I also started using it to cook burger patties without fuming up the entire apartment, which was almost impossible before.

And chicken breast stuffed with broccoli does sound quite good. :f_thumbsup:

Yeah, and I think there's cheese involved.
Broccoli + cheese is always good _drink:

OK I know that this is extremely uninteresting, but I have finally ordered the part for my main computer. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up today.

Tomorrow will mark a week with no forums and (almost) no poker.

So what was the hold-up?
My office was such a mess that I had no place to actually work on my computer, so before I could fix the thing I had to do a major tidying.

So just to avoid total withdrawal, I fired up a 10-yr old laptop -- this thing has only 4GB of RAM and is stunningly slow.

And of course there is no guarantee that the part (a new SSD system drive) will actually fix the problem

Still no boot.
I'm going to take a nap.
Tomorrow I'll try again.

Tonight I finished JKR's last book and it was great ! Better than the previous ones. I don't care about the controversy.
