So the long maligned super league in European football has been officially proposed with the signing up of 12 initial teams to the condemnation of pretty much everyone involved in football.

I heard it yesterday. Not sure what to think about it, but this pure a money issiue.
It's crazy how much money there is in football if you compare it with 30 years ago.
It was most likely better than now. Some clubs has debts of sometimes around 1 billion. That's really crazy I think.
I gave up watching pro sports years ago.
The last I watched was F1, but again, money took all the skill out of it.
Well, that escalated quickly - which is a good thing imo, because this guaranteed participation for this 12-15 founding members doesnt make any sense in terms of competition. Especially as they also wanted to still play in the national leagues where they have nothing to play for once it's clear they cannot win the championship in that year.
Wonder what the implication of this will be (if any) going forward.
We will see. It could be cancelled as well. American kind of competitions in Europe seems like a weird idea.

Lots of fans now pushing for Government to intervene and bring in the 50+1 rule Germany have to UK football putting the clubs back in the hands of the supporters my hope is that something like that happens.Also a player wage cap needs to introduced to save clubs from themselves.Currently player wages take up around 60%-80% of a clubs annual revenue with premier league clubs running at an annual loss.It's a spiralling situation that needs to come under control because extra revenue of new TV deals is only ever a short term fix to the situation.

It is just a different systems used, but it all revolves around money.
Each professional team owes smaller teams for development, baseball MLB AAA, AA, A.
I would also be lead to believe different set up for different population. UK 67.3 million people. America 330 million. Image if every city/ town had a football team,(soccer).
I think countries are just set up differently. Size being a major factor.
From what I can see ESL won’t last. Teams are community bases as team here in America are state based, same idea.

The gist of the article is that the leaders of the movement were motivated by greed.
It also casts Boris Johnson as foursquare against the league.
Greed is always a bad habit. It looks like the Super league is dead and buried on the moment, but time will tell.
As it's only Barca and Real Madrid now who are somehow still "in" maybe they can just rename LaLiga to LaSuperLiga and everyone's happy
Now JPMorgan don't invest 3,5 billion euro anymore I don't see a reason to continue the Super League.
Of course jp Morgan is taking there money away, you have 2 teams left that probably if liquidated wouldn’t make up the 4 billion as they both are loaded with debt....
Super league will be back just in about 5 years... eventually it will happen in my opinion, cause I do believe besides the epl, there are a lot of soft games in other leagues.
Business wise the more competitive you can make something the more people will watch, that is why the epl Is televised everywhere on basic cable/ tv in The US. All other leagues you need to pay to get them televised..

The problem with the super league is that it was a closed shop for the Elite clubs if they had of made it an open tournament where you qualify on merit fans wouldn't of had an issue i don't think. It's not like there is any love lost with FIFA or EUEFA two of the most corrupt institutions going.I agree the super league will be back they just need to come up with something that works for all fans of all clubs.What they were after was franchising football you would of seen the elite clubs in the Super league moving around the world to new money.And football is community based the clubs are a huge part of community in towns and cities which we cant lose.
I really like the football practice of relegation and promotion.
In Canada we have several different levels of professional and semi-professional hockey.
There is some very entertaining hockey at the 2nd and 3rd tier, but those teams -- no matter how good -- will never get a chance to be in the NHL.
Individual players will move up, but that's it.
In the Netherlands prof teams can't religate to the amateur league and the other way around. The top 'amateur' teams are most likely better than the weakest prof teams.
Ban the 5 English clubs from Epl and you are left with garbage. The clubs doing this are the money makers in their respective leagues. Good luck without them.
