Stacking Off With Stackoffski

I am making a blog I guess. I just registered and read about the Bankroll Challenge, and since I just started a challenge like this in my head anyway, I thought let's do this!

I am a dude in it's early 40's playing microstakes 6max NL Hold'em cashgames and tournaments at Pokerstars. Can you imagine that?

This is my challenge:
- Current bankroll: $281 [Updated 2021.11.04]
- Starting bankroll: $60
- Goal $500 (Well actually $10,000, but let's start with $500)
- Starting with NL$2 cashgames
- 5000 cashgame hands each week

I do not set any time-frame, I get there when I get there! Instead I set myself to play an average of at least 5000 cashgame hands each week.

Now let's get lucky!
:f_biggrin:

Okay, so let's make Thursday-eveningish my update-day. I want to update once a week at least.
I already started this challenge myself before I got here, that was about a week ago and I played 7K+ hands, so let's call that the first week. I am up! So that's good! This is all $2nl sh zzzzoooom at stars:

I just started to read the articles on this website as well, so I'm curious what's in there and what it means for my pokergame, which is basically build on accumulated knowledge from reading stuff here and there, a few books, and watching vids of course. But basically scraps of knowledge and not a coherent study-plan. I am pretty sure I play far from optimal. But yeah ... good first week, let's go!

Thank you SDK, thank you

Not going too well right now, I'm -359.5 bbs. But the good news is that according to EV I should be up 488.5 bbs. So it's a time thing. :f_thumbsup:

Almost 10K hands. When I hit 10K I will calculate and post some (average) statistics about the $2nl Zoom pool and maybe my own play. 10K hands is 60K pool hands.

Yes thank you Vorpal, I will post before the 19th!

Here are some statistics from my hands at the $2nl Zoom pool: So these stats are from the pool, not my stats.

Here are charts for the average open ranges (see post before). Of course some people open other hands than other people and no specific player plays exactly like the average.

Observations at $2nl SH Zoom
So, after 10K hands also a few observations that I made during play...

Pool size
Well first of all, pool is huge. I think it's about 200 entries at the low point and about 800 entries Sunday prime time.

Regs and Fishies
Normally, when you have a playing history with somebody like a reg, sometimes it can quickly become a game within a game. But there does not seem to be a whole lot of that going on here. Rather, regs tend to stay out of my way a lot of the time. I also tend to stay out of their way a bit as well. Why? Because there are so many regulars that if you start this second level game or whatever with every reg, I mean there are just way too many individuals to keep track of. You have to memorize too much, your mind is quickly cluttered and it takes away from your focus of what is going on in the moment. And there are so many fun players and bad players to go after! So I will save these reg wars for higher limits, where there are fewer players to keep track of, and you build a history with each other quicker.

Who is in the big blind?
Rather than going after regs, I kinda have this "unknown-in-the-big-blind? / reg-in-the-big-blind? -double policy". If there is a reg in the big blind or aggressive regs in position of me I open a whole other range than when a unkown is in the big blind. I also 3bet unkowns a lot while I 3bet regs a lot tighter. I show down good hands vs regs most of the time. They probably think I'm tighter than I really am while some unknowns might think I'm a nutcase. But I won't see them again.

Sitting deeper
If you have around 300 bbs or more, people will 3bet you way less often, especially unkowns, because they figure you probably will just call. This is really noticable to me. So I think they fold out their weaker range.

Of course, all of this is in general and generally speaking etc etc.

Yes it's crazy. But I am doing pretty well mentally, still playing well I think. And really, I rather have it like this than the other way around, when I'm winning but supposed to be losing! Long term it's gonna be allright if my EV winnings would continue like this _thumbsup:

Next 10K hands I say!

dudeeeeeeeeee!!! I salute you

I give you so much credit for keeping a cool head with this play that lady Variance is playing .
Intellectually it's easy as long as you understand variance as a concept to know that you are on the right truck, but IN the session, IN the 3rd 4th cooler... boy it can go south ( work in progress for me).

Oh yes. I can see myself in there.
It would be fun to figure it out.

At the moment I'm finishing an analysis on my big blunders and THEN it's red line time. Not that it's something bad by design, but am I missing any value from overbetting (size and/or frequency) in some spots.

Keep up the good work. I see you will not be around (NL2) for long!

Haha. Well it probably helps a lot that this is NL$2 and I am really not blown away by the amount of money I lost :f_biggrin::f_biggrin:

But it is time invested, and in the end time is more valuable than money.

I have to say though, now I am refraining from playing because I feel like I don't know how to. What is the right play etc. So I guess it is getting at me now. :f_confused:

We will solve the blue line/red line mystery! It's not bad that the red one goes up? But the blue one going down is not so nice :f_tongue:.

Since I'm not playing, I thought might as well do some study-work

From my small database of 11K, so these numbers are going to chance a bit:

In the last column are the calculated hand-equity% that would be needed against the calling range of whoever is calling, in order to raise first-in from that position.

See how little hand-equity you need and how much preflop fold-equity you have? Finding this out started me opening up my ranges against unknowns in the big blind. Against regs it is a different thing. You can say you only need this much fold-equity, which is true, but it is based on how you have been playing. If you start to show down crap every time, 3bet and calling ranges will of course change, which results in you needing more hand-equity. Plus you get in these wars where you have to remember too much because the pool is so large.

But yeah, as long as the regs stay out of my way, I just keep stealing the blinds of unknowns with some something that is a bit playable or with total crap if I'm on the BTN. If they start to give more resistance, I have to re-evaluate.

Yesterday I didn't play too well and I eventually quit. I was not playing my usual game anymore, not even gonna look at the hands. Until now I've been playing just 1 or 2 tables zoom at the time, but this time I opened a 3rd one with the plan of playing snug preflop for the remainder of the session, but I wasn't feeling it so I quit. A session to erase from memory.

This is the complete graph till now:

Who says 20 buyins is enough? I always felt like 30 is the absolute minimum. I don't mind taking shots earlier, but only with whatever I have more than 30 buyins for the current limit. But pff I'm running almost 19 buyins under EV right now, and I started with 30, so it's going to take some time before I can take a shot at NL5.

Stats
I started to play with a minimal hud again showing preflop stats:
#Hands/VPIP/RFI/3bet
I only had #Hands until now. I really have to get used to it. I don't like all those numbers cluttered all over the screen. I like a clean, minimalistic, sober design because it's easier to look at.

More for NL Holdem than for PLO?? Isn't PLO way more swingy? I don't know about PLO8. I am really not an allround player. I tried some PLO and Shortdeck but I liked NL Holdem the most. There are a lot more games, maybe I should try something else sometimes.

Vorpal, do you know, is the overall skill level lower in non-Holdem and PLO games?
