Hi EduardLeppur,
Welcome to the bankroll challenge :welcome:

Best of luck!
PLO Zoom sounds scary to me — PLO8 zoom on the other hand would be fun!

Cheers,
VS

Hi to all,

this will be a Blog about my PLO journey... I play Poker since a couple of years, but never got the right time for it because of my job. But now we are more settled, and I have time in the evenings...

My biggest winnings came from MTT's but I do not have the right time to play them.

I play PLO Zoom because I think their is something wrong with me, as I can not concentrate properly on 4 tables. Therefore, I play only two tables, and Zoom is therefore the right format...

At the same time, we are not more allowed to table select in Germany, so you will be seated just randomly...

Here is a hand which I have played yesterday...

I noted on Villain three hands ago that he called as well Pre Flop with a very weird combo....

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 98 BB
SB: 124.4 BB
Hero (BB): 168 BB
UTG: 100 BB
MP: 81.4 BB
CO: 157.4 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has K♥ A♣ A♦ K♠

UTG raises to 3.4 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 10.6 BB, UTG calls 7.2 BB

Flop: (21.6 BB, 2 players) 4♥ 8♠ 3♦
Hero checks, UTG bets 16 BB, fold

UTG wins 20.6 BB

At the moment, I generally don't really know how to play this Kind of Flop if I hold a starting hand like the one I have above...

- Am I'm dominating this kind of Flop with my starting hand?
- Or am I'm way behind?

Here is as well another hand...

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 99.8 BB
Hero (SB): 106.8 BB
BB: 119 BB
UTG: 314.2 BB
MP: 77.6 BB
CO: 100 BB

Hero posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has K♦ Q♣ A♥ J♥

UTG raises to 2 BB, MP calls 2 BB, fold, fold, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, UTG calls 7 BB, MP calls 7 BB

Flop: (28 BB, 3 players) T♣ 3♥ 9♠
Hero checks, UTG checks, MP checks

Turn: (28 BB, 3 players) 5♥
Hero bets 14 BB, UTG raises to 69 BB, fold, Hero calls 55 BB

River: (166 BB, 2 players) 8♠
Hero bets 28.8 BB and is all-in, UTG calls 28.8 BB

Spoiler

Hero shows K♦ Q♣ A♥ J♥ (Straight, Queen High)
(Pre 49%, Flop 60%, Turn 40%)
UTG shows 6♣ 5♣ 5♦ 6♥ (Three of a Kind, Fives)
(Pre 51%, Flop 40%, Turn 60%)
Hero wins 212.6 BB

Was this the right play from SB?

- I think that Check flop was ok?
- But was my Bet on the turn the right one, plus calling the raise? The turn gives me than more outs...
- Could I as well check here the turn better?

Do you have Equilab-Omaha?
I won't help much here, but in the future it might.
There are also tools like "odds oracle" and "poker juice" but they cost money, and take a fair bit of effort to learn to use properly.

The reason I say it won't help much here is that it is so hard to put opponent on a range.
But if we artificially assign him a range of 4 cards all between 4 and 9, single suited with no pairs, here is what we see:

Board: 4♥8♠3♦
       Equity    Wins    Ties
MP2    61.21%  61.21%   0.00% { 4-94-94-94-9/np/ss }
BB     38.79%  38.79%   0.00% { KhAcAdKs }

You have no straight possibilities (but at this point opponent has only straight draws)
You have no flush possibilities (and opponent has only back-doors at best)
Even with UTG having such a range, you still have nearly 39% equity, so I think hitting the accelerator would be the correct play since opponent most likely has a set — if anything — and it is highly likely as UTG that you have a similar hand.

It would be really cool if you could post this in the Omaha hand discussion forum, since I'm no Omaha expert, and I would love to hear what the experts think.

Cheers,
VS

One of the big differences when learning Omaha is to get used to the fact that equities are so much closer in PLO. With Aces, you're circa 65% favourite pre-flop vs a random hand. Even with AAKK, you only improve to 68%.

Flop textures are important to assess, but with naked overpairs like this you're never going to be dominating anything, and you'll never have any certainty that you are way behind until an opponent acts in a way to tell you this. On a rainbow board like this you can generally have some confidence that your opponent's range hasn't obviously hit it, but there are potential straight draws due to the cards being close in value. The driest boards are those like J-7-2 rainbow, which don't have these, but it's very rare that you're going to see a flop which doesn't carry some element to be concerned about (be it a straight draw, a flush draw.

The biggest issue you have in this hand is being out of position but, as played, you got your opponent to fold which is never something to be unhappy about when you're relying on a naked overpair to stay good.

Position, and analysing how boards interact with yours and your opponents ranges, are the key considerations in any Omaha hand. If you're using PPT already then you have a great tool to use to study scenarios, but the real experience comes from playing hands, and you'll get plenty of lessons in this. Playing Zoom on Stars is helpful in this regard as you'll see the equities in all-in scenarios and how easily they change from street to street (switch this option on if you haven't already).

If you're playing PLO5 with a $100 starting bankroll then you're in a similar scenario to the start of my PLO challenge. 20 buy-ins is very short so be mentally prepared for having a high risk of ruin. Stars bonuses/rakeback schemes are a big part of being able to overcome this, so don't feel too guilty if you're relying on them in the early stages.

Good luck with the challenge.

843r is pretty unlikely to hit villain strong. Especially open raising EP. Well of course people tend to open and call versus 3bet way too wide but its still unlikely. I would just pot cbet flop and stack off versus raise.

In AKQJ hand you cant really go too much wrong with any option imo. As default perhaps just potting this also as you can put ton of pressure on top pairs and overpairs and you have easily enough equity to stack off.. If you have reads that villains like to stab wide versus check then x-r would be fine as well. On turn bet-call is fine as you have so many nut outs and getting raised is pretty unlikely anyway with flop being checked. Without fd though I would probably check again as then we would have to fold to pot raise which would suck big time even if rare occurrence.

You should see a chest with a progress bar near the top of your lobby (underneath the jackpot total for The Deal). Each time you complete this you get a reward (a combo of cash and/or StarsCoins). You can progress to bigger chests by completing the targets shown in the dropdown. Once you reach the 3rd level you become eligible for the monthly rakeback challenges, which are additional to prizes you get from the chests.

Also, make sure you play the daily leaderboard games (opt in once per month for these) when playing your chosen limit. You get 3 chances at each limit to accumulate a score over 200 hands (the scoring is based on the card values you are dealt, so there's no skill involved). I've cashed reasonably frequently in these at the PLO10 and PLO25 limits (top 20 each day get a cash reward).

You want to think of your equity and hand playability/visibility on later streets. If you call flop what is plan on later streets? What turn cards are you happy to face second barrel?

Preflop would be standard 3bet.

One thing which I have noticed at PLO 5 micro stakes is, that people 4 bet and 5 bet, and you can be 1000% sure that they have AA, and it does not matter which AA they have...

So here is a Hand which I have played...

Now my Question is:

- Was my Pot bet in BB to loose?
- And then calling the Raise from BB Pre Flop- was this ok? Or should this be a fold?
- I think on the flop it should be better a check/ raise?

I’m thinking about getting PLO Juice… Does anyone have experience with it?

- will it help to Analyse my play?
- does it help with Pre Flop ranges?

Hi EduardLeppur, check out Kyyberis PLO videos here on Pokerstrategy. Pretty sure there is at least one, where he uses Pokerjuice. You could also consider his affordable Pokertraining.
