No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

UTG ($100)
MP ($109.65)
CO ($126)
Button ($100)
Hero (SB) ($121.05)
BB ($75.60)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8, 8
1 fold, MP bets $3, 1 fold, Button calls $3, Hero calls $2.50, BB calls $2

Flop: ($12) A, A, 8 (4 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP checks, Button checks

Turn: ($12) J (4 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $8, MP calls $8, Button raises $31, Hero folds, 2 folds

Total pot: $36

Reason for not donkbetting turn: guy in SB was very aggro donk who betted whenever he sensed weakness. MP was a fish, but didn't make too loose calls. Then this button guy is completely new to table, only played 2 hands, quickly checked his PTR stats, seems to be losing player.
Thoughts?

although it's kind of unpleasant I am still inclined to call here. BB's range for betting out here (given your read) is very wide. It's also hard for MP to have a very strong hand since he would normally c bet and may raise turn himself if he did have (since there are some gutshots out there).

This leaves BU who acts last. I think he could easily raise any strong Ax for value, including AK/AQ and maybe even AT (apart from AJ) so although we are beaten by AJ and JJ there are still plenty of Ax we are ahead of. Since we didn't show any strength on F or T yet, anyone with Ax should consider themselves well ahead and therefore I think our hand is underrepresented enough that we have a call.

Finally, although I don't mind checking the flop in the hope that someone bets this scary board I think taking the initiative on the turn by betting out is absolutely mandatory. how else can you build the pot? Ok, you are hoping that BB senses weakness but maybe he has a weak Ace this time and decides to slow play to the River ;)

Generally I think you played it fine but I'd usually make it smaller on the turn, $25 look a bit more like you're trying to rebluff him (imo) so perhaps you can induce some spew. Of course there's not a big difference as a c/r here looks very strong in general, you can probably argue either way.

One think I therefore also consider is c/calling the turn, it depends on how willing this villain is to bluff the river 3way.
W/o reads c/r > c/c in my opinion as 95%+ of people will just not follow through on the river.

Phil,

think you misread the action. In the hand, Hero check/fold Turn (so he cant "make it smaller" since he didnt bet in the first place ;)

wtf is this

ok seriously now,
since that guy was totally new at table and was playing full stacked I assumes:
His range would probably most reg's range, that is AQ, AJ, JJ, ATs.
-Since he's new to table he most likely doesnt know that aggressive donk (looked as one of those that come for a day or two and lose all moneyz), so he probably puts him on Ax.
-Since he's new to table he doesn't know if that donkey 3bets with AK PF, which would make him call all his weaker aces.
-Maybe he's a nit and raised with AK on turn?
-There are 3 combos of JJ, 6 combos of AJ and 8 combos of AK (which I still think he raises PF and am not sure if he raises it on turn)

OK these were my complicated thoughts I'm not sure if I wrote everything I think it's just like a complication of my current thinking.

Nooo, this time I didn't .

I meant the size of the checkraise.

I'm such a fish -.-

Thought BU was hero.

But I'd still fold vs bet+raise, so "Generally I think you played it fine" is still valid
