villian is 18/14/4.6 aggro fact 2.3, WTS 28, resteal 6% at bb.
when he checks, it looks as if he has a weakish pair or AK/AQ that whiffed and give up.
bet small plan was to get value/induce as i doubt he checks his monsters w/o any history vs me.
was my calldown even good here?

I don't really get why you're betting so low here, I think he could easily call with broadways here and I really wouldn't like to see any J+ cards on board.
Betting bigger also makes hand easier to play IMO.

so isnt it good to have broadways to call??
or you think he calls broadways if i bet bigger?
wouldnt he cbet instead?

I think broadways would call even if u made it a bit bigger.
I'm just saying u shouldn't give him such good odds.
I don't know whether he would cbet broadways or not, as you said, you don't have any history with him.

really? what game do you play? when i say no history, i expect him to play standard.
standard play for broadways on this flop is to cbet, or check fold obv....

misunderstood that history part
I just wont rather post anymore

You're giving 6:1 odds to overcards on the flop and 6.5:1 on the turn!

Imo bet $22 on the flop, overcards only call the small bet because they get the odds to do so.
Also betting bigger balances your range and will get you more value - if he c/folds overcards here it's ok, you can exploit this in the future by calling more in position.
If he planned on c/folding and now calls because you made it that small, he's not making a mistake - actually he gains with the small bet because he can realize his equity.
If he planned on calling one street with Ax, he will definitely do it vs the 1/2PSB too.

@bierbaer: sure we give great odds, but isn't betting for value this small a better option than check behind(which is my initial plan)?
imo, he's hardly ever calling $22 with his overcards, and do we even need to balance much at this limit? player pool is pretty wide.
although i think this play can be balanced.
such a play is to be used on boards like this, since anything that is playing checkcalling is generally weak, we can easily blast turn and river with a merged range to put him off his weak pairs or let him bluff catch with a weaker holding.
in this hand, i didn't blast turn since now my percieved range and his bluff catching range improved since i could easily value bet small(while he could play pot control) with 9x for value + protection.
when he raise the turn, he's pretty much repping 9x. well given my own thought process i should have folded pretty much but i 9x doesnt really tally with his 6% resteal range hence i called down, which probably is a mistake.

hmm, i might even 4bet/call here preflop (ofc this also depends on your stats+image). Against these active(ish) restealers i dont mind having TT in my value 4bet range (u also have to consider that i also 4bet light a ton so i like having thiner value hands in my 4bet range)

$44,50 and call pre

I don't like flop bet, if we have value hands here we bet bigger to potentially set up river jam, so we are really polarised to weakish showdown hands that cant survive pressure. As played you probably gonna have to call.

Only if he calls against his odds.
Example with easy numbers:
Let's say there are 80 in the pot and you bet 10, the opponent gets 9:1 or in other words needs 10% equity.
If he has 20% (you could put 11% here but with 20 it's easier to calculate) he loses 8 from the bet he puts in but wins 0.2*90=18, so he wins $10 from the pot.
If you'd bet 30 he'd lose 0.2*30=24 from the bet and would win 0.2*110=22 from the pot, so a total loss of 2.

To put it another way: If you bet small enough to give him the odds to call he loses money from the bet he puts in, but at the same time he realizes so much of his equity in the pot that all in all you are the one making a mistake.

imo, he's hardly ever calling $22 with his overcards, and do we even need to balance much at this limit? player pool is pretty wide.

Ah sorry I missed out on this.

Well compared to a check I like the small bet since he's not too aggressive and therefore unlikely tu bluff (and ofc if we thought he's bluff vs a small bet we can even bet so small to induce).
We therefore get some thin value and potentially a free SD.

So I also agree that it should be a b/f. He probably doesn't even consider turning smth like AK into a bluff.
