BU= unknown LP

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$0.25/$0.5 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 7:s, A:h.
MP3 folds, Hero raises, BU calls, 2 folds, BB folds.

Flop: (5.4 SB) 5:c, 9:h, 6:h (2 players)
Hero bets, BU raises, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.7 BB) 4:h (2 players)
Hero checks, BU checks.

River: (4.7 BB) 8:s (2 players)

Final Pot: 6.7 BB.

Can I donk/call the turn, or would X/R be better?

Interesting turn spot. Do you think he'll bet/fold a pair? I doubt it. After he raises the flop I think he has at least a pair on the turn. Donking the turn wouldn't also make much sense, you're still behind vs his range:

(let's give him just a pair with no draw)

Board: 5♣9♥6♥ 4♥
       Equity     Win     Tie
CO     45.45%  45.45%   0.00% { Ah7s }
BU     54.55%  54.55%   0.00% { Ks6s }

I'd check/call hoping that he checks back a better hand and assuming that he won't bet/fold anything. So he checks back and you have a nice value bet on the river vs any pair. Well played!
