Is it OK to raise here preflop ? How do you like the bF bT c/fR line on this board? I was thinking on checking instead of 2nd barelling on turn, but I thought the villain just wanted to see the turn maybe. I dunno if it was ok here. I gave up the hand on the river I didnt think that he could bluff with a busted draw, I think he had a pair at least.

Hi,

This raise preflop might be good. Its can go either way and depends on their limping tendencies. Against unknowns I like to check here. We may have a slight equity advantage preflop but until we understand how to navigate marginal spots against our opponents its going to be difficult to realize that equity.

Fwiw, raising A2s+ typically gives us slightly better equity in spots where A7/8 are close and theres a little more value in it postflop because we can flop draws that improve our equity. We brick many more flops with A7o and its more difficult to justify continuing if we're played back at.

The flop & turn are very reasonable imo. The river hits T9 for a straight and against our check he can value bet quite wide. Some made hands might check back like 5x, maybe 8x. We do beat T7, 96, 97, 76, and some other weak hands.

I don't mind showing down given that he can have many draws and we're getting 7:1. However, this might be the weakest hand we can have at this point. If there's a hand we want to fold its the weakest hand.

Hi,

thanks for the comment. I usually like to raise here, not just because the equity, but its very unlikely that I get a 3bet pre or on the flop from these players, and also if an ace comes up on a dry flop and I bet OOP that shows quite a strength, and I may make fold any weaker hand postflop, so I think I have to get money in the pot preflop. Also if an ace does not come up, sometimes I can make fold weak pairs on a broadway heavy, less peal friendly board with a second barrel. Since my SD value is low, I would like to win the pot without seeing the river. And sometimes,on low textured board I even get a checkbehind on the river from thrash hands and I can win the pot with showdown.

The reason why I posted this hand is that I am not really sure, when I should barrel the turn, and when to call a bet on the river. The board was somewhat peal friendly, and the problem with this is that if he draws for a straight or a flush, I have no fold equity, but If I check the turn, I may give a free card for the hands I would beat. So when I bet the turn means that I want to go to showdown, because I might be good, but the two broadway cards most likely hit the opponent (K7s,Q7s,K9s,Q9s,KTs,QTs,KQs- IDK if he would raise KQ from the BU) and T9 has a straight.

Hi!

Preflop totally agree with datsmahname and I also preffer to check but raising is no mistake.

Flop cbet is marginal but fine.Sure basic strategy teaches you to always cbet flop vs 2 players ,however there are ocations when you are better not to. thing is this middle ranged, drawheavy flops are really the ones you will hardly ever make them fold right away.On the contrary you can expect counter action huge portion of the time and since you will be having a hand like you do have here it will make your life hell. So actually checking and c/c one time is totally fine here and reevaluate on the turn....not terrible but I totally preffer checking.

As played turn bet makes much more sense however here checking/betting imo depends on the oponent. If he likes to bluff and generally not thinking then perfect spot to c/c.He will see this kind as super dooper great bluffing card.

Vs extremly passive and non-bluffing I dont mind c/f and basically hope they checkdown their worse worse hands.

Vs passive players Its fine to b/f since they will not raise turns as bluffs and betting is the best way of investing bets vs such players as long as you feel there is still some value

Vs thinking player this is basically a must bet spot. If you check turn they will instantly know you have a weak made hand which wants to c/c or you have something strong that wants to c/r.In any case you dont plan on folding very often because if you had air you would definatelly try to exploit this scary K.
So this leaves us with betting which is also very balanced...you basically double barrell you whole range and they cant just exploit you.
When raised however you will have to calldown now.Turn bluffs on such card are very very likely and here many draws exists.

In this case I dont mind to bet but would feel very irritated if raised since oponents is unknown. I preffer to just c/calldown on blanks, take a read and adjust properly. Also he looks quite bad due to preflop so I would not assume he is very thinking.

As played I also dont mind to call river. There are still busted draws and I also dont think he will vbet that much on this board assuming he is bad. Im pretty sure he will rarely vbet worse that Jx here and there are not that many Qx+ hands in his range(and even reduced Jx due to no raise on flop)....so bluffs are quite likely...1:7 should be enough.
