New Career Ideas??

Hey Guys,

I'm currently stuck in a pretty mudane job atm working in a finance department.

Just hoping some of you could help suggest a different career path for me. Or if you love your job, let me know what it is.

I love the idea of playing poker for a living and the freedom it creates (and obviously the financial benefit :f_cool: ), however that might be a while away yet.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :f_thumbsup:.

Thanks

Hey there.

First thing you need to do if you haven't read it already is click the productivity guide link in my sig under this post. If you have read it, read it again and this time get involved. Seriously if you want to get the best out of yourself this is the best place to start.

Regards
Carl

hey,

it depends on what you want really. if you want a lot of money, look into entrepreneurship, find a need and sell a product to satisfy the need.

if money isn't that important to you (or you plan to get it through poker), then i suggest taking an afternoon off, brainstorming possible jobs and researching them, then picking one that you will really really enjoy.

unfortunately, these will usually be different jobs :(.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I've started re-reading the productivity thread (and I have actually started doing the action steps this time).

Money is not the main goal, however i do have financial commitments (rent etc.) therefore it is important to a certain extent.

Any ideas where to find these different job ideas to brainstorm? Recruitment sites usually have pages and pages of the same jobs being posted.

hey 3prswins

If you choose to play poker in next few months, or years professionally. i would like to tell you that even if you become very good, and you will be able to make a lot of money there is a chance that you will not be so happy as you might think now becouse sistem is poker work like that: good players wins in long run but they dont win as much as they should. not even close. of course there are some people who wins a big tournaments.

I personally still love playing poker even that in the past i had a lot of bad luck.

anyway good luck finding the best choice for you.

In your brain?

I think you need to think about things you would like to do. so you could write down some of your interests and for each interest try and think of as many jobs possible or use google. so for example you could just google jobs involving football.

Of course you might not just land in a job associated with your fave hobby so think of other things too like im going to enjoy a job driving or i want to be in an office. I love talking to new people what jobs can i find doing that? Maybe you prefer to work alone?

Just need to ask yourself what you enjoy and what you are best at. Only you can answer this. Good luck

Hey Fiskantes,

Thanks for linking this, I am definitely going to sign up when it opens. I have no experience in trading but it is something that's always fascinated me.

Will be interesting to see how this works, I always thought you would need a decent amount of capital to start.

Any idea if the posts are paid/unpaid full-time/part-time?

Easily the best suggestion here.

Like others have said, it depends on your personality type - do you like to work in groups? Do you prefer to work alone? Are you a people person who loves helping others? Are you the analytical type? Or are you a man of the night who enjoys taking your clothes off?

I'm actually going through the same thing as you right now being bored with my work in finance, and planning some future careers in Forex trading (which only requires a few hours per week) and studying criminology. I also have a passion for coffee, so interested in doing just a few hours a week in this industry, maybe coffee roasting. I'd like to have a few different jobs to make each week more interesting.

That's maybe not the answer you're looking for, but just providing some examples of how to think of the things you love doing and applying yourself towards a new career(s). Find what you're passionate about, something that inspires you.

There's a few job vacancies for nude chainsaw jugglers if you're interested. You've gotta be good though, as any mistakes lead to instant castration.
