I agree with your analysis and i would not mind to check/call this and let him bluff. as your kicker sucks and a lot of people just bet kind of polarized. that means they do frequently bet/fold or continue with a stronger hand but check medium strenght hands like J8 etc. If you spot your opponent behaves like this you should just check/call as you'd also check/call sometimes Kx hands you might be folding the river to another barrel. so not impossible that he follows through with a bluffing hand like JT. But since he's quite unknown, you need to show off your hand. With a read you will have picked later on you may consider folding but not without any specific information.
