Questions:

- can I profitably make a cc3b with my hand? The hand has great potential and is pretty easy to play post flop.

- Should I continue betting on the T? or can I better ch.beh. and hope for trips/straight/Flush on the R?

Any other comments on the hand would also be appreciated, would you play it the same or completely different, and why?

I personally wouldn't make a cold-call here, even though 98s is easy to play postflop and can flop a big hand that can take down a huge pot, and the extra money in the pot from the fish makes it especailly tempting to play. The reasons I can think of for folding are:

1) 98s often completely misses the flop, and you won't make a monster often enough to compensate for all the times you pay three bets to see a flop and then miss.

2) If you make top pair with your hand, the pot will be so large that you won't be able to let it go easily, but against a EP opener and an EP 3-bettor, you're often up against TT+ in at least one spot.

3) When you do happen to flop well, it will often be as it was in this hand--you'll flop a good draw, and very rarely will you flop the straight or flush (and even when you do, you're vulnerable to redraws against A :heart:x or K :heart:Q :club:-type hands). Also, since EP preflop aggressors are usually on TT+ or good aces, you'll often end up paying several bets on each street to complete your draw, especially since your opponents will want to protect their hands against draws.

I think a cold-call would certainly be reasonable for two bets, but for three bets (and quite often four when the raiser caps), I don't think it's quite worth it.

As for the turn, I'll have to let someone more experience answer that, since checking for the free card could be correct, or, since your draw is super-strong with outs to two-pair or trips being added to your flush/straight outs and since you have a fish involved who could be practically giving his money away, you might even consider three-betting your draw on the turn for value. And I'm not entirely sure what's best.

Hope that helps.

Well I hoped that one of the players behind me would also cc, which I think is not unreasonable.

as for the possible 3b on the T, it would mean the fish has to call 2 raises which even fish are (most of the time) not happy to do. Therefor I did not really consider this, perhaps I'm wrong.

Hi!

Preflop I actually dont mind to call even though its prolly not really much of difference in terms of EV... I would say if you are fine with higher variance and if you think your edge over oponents is huge then Im totally for the play.

Flop I dont really like your raise even though you floped big. You are dealing with very strong ranges and by the way you played the hand you can hardly expect them all to fold. They will either call you down, put more action when they are ahead, or they will fold on bad cards(the cards which will improve you anyway)... I would say playing passive and let other invest some $$ is a better play.

Turn is interesting....hard to say if c/c is a better play, however with equity this good it cant really be far from optimal...however,non of this would happen if you just called on the flop.
