Hi, techtard with a troubleshooting question here
My laptop sound keeps failing, and certain vids won't play either. It's very strange.
When I turn on the machine, I have no sound from any program. No beeps from Stars or Skype etc. Stored videos and music will play but with no sound. Just no noise whatsoever from the machine.
Also (this might be important), youtube won't work properly either. A video will play for 2-5 seconds (with no sound), then cut out with an error message. I checked out the advice they offered but it was useless.
The problem started on Sunday (three days ago), and so far I have reinstalled a driver for my soundcard, and reinstalled adobe flash and adobe air. I am going to tinker with Java next.
I went to the Adobe and Java sites and both say I'm up to date. I ran secunia and it does say my Postgre needs updating, but I have a problem and don't know what to do about it. I don't know the password for my Postgre - I cant remember ever making a password for it. I don't see what effect a database program would have on sound anyway.
I have checked that my soundcard is working properly etc.
My laptop is reasonable new, under a year. It's a Lenovo G500, running 64bit windows 8. I haven't modified it in any way. I am a "safe" user (don't use my machine for any dodgy downloading or porn etc). This is the first problem I've encountered.
Sometimes a restart will fix the problem, sometimes not. If it does, the next time I come back to use the machine the problem starts all over again.
Any advice is welcome!!
