I'm just wondering if this as some bluffcatch potencial.
Some AX's that missed it and would want to make it look like a monster.
Villain is basically unknown, 25/19 over 130 hands.
Only maniac you can beat calling his bets in this spot imo. If you have some reads if the opp bluffing a lot (3barreling) , you can have 3 calls here.
Vs unknown calling to 3 barrel in multiway pot is just too much imo.
In general: 2nd pairs are worth 1 street of value and this is when we are HU.
Also, if Villain has anything less than a Kx in this spot, he automatically goes on my fish list.
EDIT: That is. Unless you are a station, then having a 5x is OK for him. And since you call down with 99 ...

Go easy on me Athletic, I'm emotionally fragile ![]()
Floxy, this was one of the FPS spots I meant.
I did not understand why one has to have Kx in this spot to play it like this. Enlighten me master
Ok but what does FPS stands for ? Never heard of it.
The thing is in a way CO has a tempting bluffing spot because SB isn't supposed to have much Kx here. You are quite face up on medium PP mostly. So indeed it's tempting to call down 99. Except that the spot begin multiway so maybe that tighten CO, maybe not.
I wouldn't say it's mandatory for CO to have a Kx to bet though. Depends on the profile and the field. Some stakes they don't bluff so they have it, some stakes they bluff a lot with big sizes so they don't have it so often, some stakes they can both bluff and value thin...
Can't go easy or hard. It just is what it is. We all make mistakes and need to learn from them.
Kx, because that is what I'd have most of the time in Villain's shoes.
Also, we need to answer to the question on all 3 streets:
What better fold and what worse call?
Just be in Villain's shoes and think through the hand.
Would you bet AA on the river? How about 5x? If you bet 5x, what worse call? If you bet 5x, what better call? If you bet Kx, what worse call?
Sure, but what if I actually told you that besides the obvious Kx villain is also allowed to play others hands than only AA and 5x ? ![]()
If zeto is calling 99 of course he's expecting CO to be polarized between Kx and bluffs. Duh.

That's why I wrote in the beginning: "bluffcatch potencial".
I agree with Ath about the fact that is underbluffed at micros and all that sort of things.
But try to see this hand in a high-stakes perspective, if we can call it that way.
Floxy, FPS means Fancy Play Syndrome and it is basically what I wrote on Vorpal's post.
Yeah the question is does he bluff and we think not enough globally.
Fancy Play Syndrome yeah I remember now it was a term popularized by Mike Caro ! Thank you.

3bet preflop. As played, surrender turn.

It's true that squeezing pre would solve the problem.
Haven't discussed that yet. Squeeze this pre?
Haven't read Janda yet so... ♦
I'm not an expert in ranges, but I believe 99 are a call from SB vs MP open raise most of the times. There are some other combos to 3bet with, like KJ's, KT's.
Oh sorry I didn't talk about it I thought you were clear with it.
From SB the trend is... to pretty much not flat anything anymore. Good regs at decent stakes play a 3bet or fold only strategy from SB. Reasons being the rake, possibility of squeeze from BB, and an awfully capped and unplayable position postflop etc.
But the more you play bad players or multiway the more calling can come back on the table. So here with a flat from CO and it being NL5 I had no problem with the flat pre. But indeed you don't see it anymore from NL200 regs for example. (You might see it in MTT as there is no rake but even in MTT it's less frequent than it once was.)
I am almost never flatting that hand in this spot as 99 out of position vs 2 players is almost impossible to play profitably postflop.
Even if the players are bad I would prefer squeezing as you get better value from their light calls and bad postflop play.
I actually believe calling is worse than folding in this spot and would rate our options SQUEEZE > FOLD > CALL.
I don't see how calling a PP at NL5 multiway could be that bad. We aren't talking about board covering, range advantage and all. Just plain good old implieds because you see a cheap flop and they suck.
