If there is a $.01 ante on 2NL zoom the pot is $.09 before anyone even has cards. With the pot being this large and the game being very passive preflop I would imagine we could develop a profitable limp range from any position. ( I can't even imagine folding a SB if its folded to you.)

Hi MrBalzter,
So why limp?
If we limp from anywhere, we give anyone behind us a license to isolate with a pot-sized bet.
Then what?

I need to think about this more.

When I first started playing poker, the general rule was to raise first in with a 4x raise.
This denies the BB pot odds to call with a wide range.

The problem with that approach is that 3Bet pots get huge.

I really want to see this coaching to see what is suggested regarding 3betting ranges and up.

Cheers,
VS

My first impression after playing a cession:

You shoul call more and 3 =bet less.
You should 3bet bigger espacally oop.
Calling from he SB is ok
You can still raise small as player don't defend enough and 3 bet too small giving you great odd to call their 3 bet.

Flop bet sizing, bigger pots so it is more profitable to bet smaller with bigger chuncks of your range!??

What can we learn from the strategies used in tournaments where it is more usual to have antes in the game?

Hello coach Lemon :f_drink:

I'm playing NL10 and I see that my red line is decreasing faster, than it was without ante. Please come and help me to save my winrate on a good level :f_thumbsup:

I see that people sometimes open raise for 4.1BB, exactly 4.1BB not 4 or 4.5? Is there any mathematical reason for that?
What is good sizing for open raise now?
Should we open more?

My range from BU and CO is now a little wider and my sizing preflop is now a little higher. What do You think about that?

I'm pretty sure that we should expect that, since every fold now costs us 1 ante.
As always, it is the green line that matters.

Without antes, people would open 3BB typically, which is 0.5 BB shy of a pot-sized raise.
To do the same with antes, one should open raise 9BB.

Let's let Lemon show us what is best.
If (for example) you win OTR by betting and getting a fold, the win goes on your red line.
If you check and win at showdown it goes on the blue line.
Both add the exact same amount to the green line.

As for the open-raise size I'm guessing that the reason it is exactly 4.1 is that they have their button set to that, and they just click it.
It seems to small to me, though.

as one of the looser regs, i enjoyed giving NL10 a test run. theoretically, nits get destroyed and loose limping isn't nearly as bad of a strategy (good for recreationals), which should be "good for the game".
obviously, the bad side is the increase in effective rake. i'm very interested in seeing the effects of rake in those games, as well as how it'd go with the rake structure of higher limits.

The total rake taken from each pot will be higher, however won't that be offset by larger pot sizes, especially when you take down a pot pre-flop?
Also, your "rake contributed" will be >0 in all positions, whether you see a flop or not -- before other than the blinds if you weren't in the pot, you were credited with no rake.

Here is another little wrinkle...
When it is time to quit -- just sit out the next hand.
I had always previously clicked "sit out next big blind"
Now that costs you 1 BB for every two hands you fold between quittin' time and the next BB

Some great questions guys, thank you very much. You are making my life easier!
We will look at them all tonight

Don't expect firm conclusions by the way, we will need long term samples over months.
I played in exclusively ante games for well over a year, but at NL200-400 - the high micro stakes rake pretty much makes it a unique format. But we will be using your comments and discussion, my knowledge, a sample I will try to get, math and software.

These are exciting times for people willing to adapt faster than other regs - and hopefully we will give you a head start tonight!

I am actually surprised at this as I wasn't sure before the session
The conclusion of the twitch chat generally is that It's definitely a positive change as long as people will not be taking money off the tables and let games go deep

Thank you all for coming, hopefully you have a decent start into adjusting to antes, and I had a lot of fun myself!
