there is this new promotion on stars its a leaderboard except not really a leaderboard... It only takes into account the first 300 hands you play at the stake and the points are based on your hole cards. It seems completely luck based, frustrating its not volume dependent
anybody else with thoughts on this?

Opt-in to all nine leader boards and complete 300 Cash or Zoom hand for each leader board to win up to nine prizes each day
The dude who won the NL2 leader board had 6057 points.
Aces are 125 points.
If you get aces once an orbit you'd get around that in 300 hands.
Am I missing something?
Leader boards can only be competed in by playing real-money No Limit Hold'em Cash or Zoom hands with matching stake levels
I'm not likely to play Hold'em all that much, but maybe just for the challenge
OK, that was interesting.
I played 217 hands and got 2500 points exactly.
I'm getting tired, so I'll play the next 83 hands tomorrow.

What I'm missing is that every hands counts.
The hands are added together, so high hands count for more.
Suited connectors count for more.
I tried to copy/paste the whole leaderboard rules, but it is an image, not text.
I ran like King Midas picking up over 2 buy-ins -- so that is like 100 BB/100
Is hold'em always this easy? 
At least in Omaha, card values are just added together. In Holdem, it's based on hand value.
Pure variance, no one has an edge. Not sure whether I like it or not. From player perspective, it's nice as it's pure freeroll on the stakes you normally play. From Stars perspective, not sure if it adds volume at all. Why not make it so that you could start over once you finish 300 hands? Maybe you could be able to do it x times and best one counts? Or that if you start over, the new one would be your score? That would increase volume, but still it would be very much luck based.
For PLO, something is off. It should calculate all 4 cards from a hand, as in their example. Average card is 8, so average points per hand is 32. 300 hands would give average of 9600 points. Still pretty much everyone comes up with 4800 points.

perhaps they are just taking two of the cards -- since you can only use two
interesting promo. yes, it's completely luck-based, but that's probably the point (help the fish).
300 hands seems like an amount that a recreational player can reasonably get in, while "no retries" is a very transparent way to put them on par with the regs. seems fine to me.
Yeah it’s frustrating... I love the grind aspect of an actual leaderboard like ggpoker... maybe the best option is to opt in to many different stakes for this PS leaderboard
That would be great if you could do it unlimited times and best one counts... not even sure though.
I didn't take a shot so far, but it looks not to interesting. Only if you run fantastic with the card distribution you have a change to win something extra.
Here's the thing -- it's not usually a good idea to chase promos.
If you regularly play 300 hands+ each session, then this is a good addition for you.
If you go play 300 hands just to get the reward, remember that it is more important to f̶i̶n̶i̶s̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶3̶0̶0̶ ̶h̶a̶n̶d̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶p̶r̶o̶f̶i̶t̶ play each hand properly, than it is to get the reward.
What I mean is -- concentrate on playing good poker, not on the gimmick
